In “A Quick Way to Cut College Costs” Steve Cohen provides a rationale for the price of college education. He says that the price is appalling and abnormal and that in the last 30 years it rose five times faster than other prices. He argues that the surest way to reduce the price of college education is for Congress to take action to significantly decrease the E.F.C and that will force colleges to provide more accurate financial aid. The author claims that the E.F.C, which is estimated by the Department of education, is not thorough because it doesn’t take into account many factors.
The meaning of the Pell grant is to help economically disadvantaged students received a higher education by reducing the burden of the tuition and fee costs, and thereby, increase college participation. However, these good intentions of the Pell grant have caused one profound and unplanned consequence; which is the contribution to growing tuition cost for public and private colleges and universities. Supply and demand are the basic concepts of economics, so it’s no surprise that the increasing demand for higher education brought on by the Pell grant will have the consequence of rising tuition. More importantly, though, when Pell grants are used to pay for college, students are not as concerned with the cost as they would be if they were paying from their own pocket. As a result, the law of demand
In the article, “The Problem is that Free College Isn’t Free”, Andrew P. Kelly explains how students are struggling to get into a free college because of rising cost. His first thing he talks about is how schools cost is expanding as more and more students enroll. He then proceeds to talk about how the cost of college is the main obstacle and they are turning down students and their education because of that cost. The final reason Andrew P. Kelly explains was how the price of college was funding the education and the materials needed to have a good education. The article “The Problem is that Free College Isn’t Free” by Andrew P. Kelly explains how free college is not actually free(as showed by the title).
However, the privilege of obtaining an education is becoming increasingly difficult to finance which ironically leaves some college students with the decision to choose between pursuing their dreams or having a meal on a consistent basis. The general perception of students who attend college is that since they are able to afford to further their education, they are inherently privileged and inevitably categorized as part of the affluent demographic within our nation. In contrast, Frank Eltman of the Huffington Post expressed that the majority of students enrolled in a university are ineligible for food stamps despite suffering from food insecurity. Eltman also capitalizes on the statistic that the tuition for public universities has increased an inordinate amount of twenty seven percent in the last five years. However, tuition is not the only expense that students are expected to finance.
Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
However, it is still an issue for students to cough up that money. The idea of making community college free to any student in America has been a dream for low income students for a while. President Obama’s desire to make the tuition of community college to everyone in the nation would only make it difficult for students to get a free education, limit them to essential resources, and discourage students from applying to four year universities. Granting free community college tuition to incoming freshmen will draw “more students to already crowded community colleges”. Along with the overcrowded campuses, a very long waiting list will soon form making it just as competitive to get into a four year university.
The Financial Cost of a College Education The cost of a college education has become a determining factor in whether or not people choose to continue their education after high school. The cost of college is so expensive that very few people are able to pay for their education “as they go”; students are being overwhelmed with student-loan debt. The prospect of student-loan debt shouldn't be driving people away from a college education. The cost of a college education in the United States is unaffordable.
Today’s education system seems to be a problem in America because the society feels they are not receiving a fair opportunity to succeed. Funding College can have a negative outcome because colleges may become overcrowded and community college colleague’s wages may decrease. Degrees wouldn’t mean as much and taxes may increase. Community college being funded by the government can also have a negative impact on universities because everyone would go to a community before going to a university which could cause many problems. Funding college would add to the nation’s debt because the government would have to improve schools by reconstructing it, so more people would be able to attend the school.
The cost for colleges must go down so students will not be
Students can't pay back loans for many years. Then, as a domino effect, there is more debt. Middle class parents , are caught in a tight web because they can afford college on paper but in reality, have no money left for retirement and receive no financial aid. The cost of college has escalated out of control and the cost of college grows faster than the rate of inflation. In order to cut the costs of my education, I plan to work part time and contribute some of my earnings to my education.
Not having free or low college tuition impacts many people, “between 2011-12 and 2016-17 tuition and fees have increased 9% at four year public schools, 11% at two year public schools, and 13% at
Almost everyone is aware of the fact that over the years, colleges have become more and more costly to attend. They are becoming a financial burden on society and the rising tuition costs are threatening the ability of most students to attend college. The purpose of this persuasive research essay is to persuade the government of United States of America to fund the education of citizens. Over the years, different scholars have researched on this subject and they have discovered different ways to persuade the government in funding the education.
Increase In College tuition “Given the best of all possible worlds, I would make a few changes. I would place emphasis on increasing the amount of funding that goes into programs like Pell Grants, that purely and simply award funds to students who really cannot afford full tuition” (Vest). In this world their are so many American students that do not have the money for college, so they settle for low paying jobs for example fast food restaurants and Nursery workers. Almost all these jobs are minimum wage these type of jobs do not require and type of special training because it’s just a JOB. There are so many American students that don’t have the opportunity to go to college because of many issues, but the main issue of students not being able
Every year students are given the opportunity to do dual enrollment which would save them hundreds to thousands in college, but most miss their chance and are required to take remedial classes in college. According to statistics, “Complete College America reports that almost 50% of the students entering 2-year colleges are required to take remedial classes. ( Rath Par.15)”. To further explain, due to students not taking advantages in high school are required to take remedial classes they most-likely took in high school and pay around triple the amount. The significance in the evidence is that college students are not trying ahead of time to save money, which is a big reason for some quantity of their debt.
This makes the student think if college is an investment that is even worth it. Most people are spending at least $50,000 on their college education and high school students can’t even begin to
