Did you know that at least 20 individuals in America pass away from homelessness every day? All of these tragic deaths can be avoided; they occur in tents, cars, and even on the streets. Homelessness is more than just not having shelter. Homelessness is defined as “the state of having no home” Homelessness not only violates a number of other human rights, such as the right to vote, the right to receive government benefits or essential services, the right to personal security, and the right to participate in community democratic life, but it also demonstrates that a state is failing to ensure access to safe, affordable, and adequate housing for all (Homeless Lethal). Many Americans have extremely easy access to healthcare; nevertheless, the homeless population does not. Because of the discrimination they face and the lack of rights they are given, they do not have as easy access to health care. The homeless population has a wide range of physical and mental health issues. Affective disorders like depression and bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse disorders are all common in the homeless population (Tarr). Many researchers find that homelessness and mental illness are directly related, Homelessness is closely connected to declines in physical and mental health; homeless persons experience high rates of health problems such as HIV infection, alcohol and drug abuse, mental illness, tuberculosis, and other conditions (“Homelessness Human”). However, the absence of healthcare resources makes it exceedingly difficult for the homeless community to receive the assistance they require. There are numerous drugs available to aid with these numerous health issues. Much of this is trash and other items that a homeless person would be holding on to but has no where to put it. Leading trash, human waste, and other refuse from homeless encampments pollute our city's waterways and public spaces, because public restrooms and trash receptacles are limited, and many businesses prohibit the homeless from using restrooms, homeless people are forced to dispose of their trash and other waste in any location they can find ("Impact”). This not only poses a health risk to those nearby but also has an impact on the surrounding wildlife. The ecology and the creatures that live in the surrounding areas are negatively impacted by the garbage that is occurring. Since many homeless people put their waste in the water, the rubbish also has an impact on the city's water supply. The typical behaviors of the homeless have an impact on the neighborhood's businesses as well as the environment. Sleeping on the streets, panhandling, public excretion or urination, and public intoxication are all examples of chronically homeless behaviors. The presence of transients fosters a lawless environment. Customers can be scared away by transients sitting in front of businesses during the day (Chamard).
