Whenever we leave our homes, we must always stay vigilant and aware of our surroundings. In today’s society, one of the highest and most serious issues we are faced with is human trafficking. What images do you have in your head when the phrase "human trafficking" is used? I misunderstood what human trafficking meant for a long time. Now that I am more aware of it, I see how often it is disregarded. The terrifying aspect of human trafficking is that it could be anyone close to you such as a relative, friend, or coworker. However, there is still the risk of a complete stranger being a trafficker.

The victims will need aid from medical and mental health professionals because the trauma they went through will make an impact on them mentally and physically. Marburger stated, “Integrated treatment options to alleviate these concerns, including cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused therapy, ecologically focused therapy, and family therapy, are presented.” (Marburger 2020) Victims who survive will have a long road ahead of them due to the trauma and readjusting to their lives sometimes after many weeks, months, or even years of being in captivity. The families, friends and those who knew the survivors will always be grieving the loss of a child, spouse, friend, or even coworker. When trauma is experienced to this extent, individuals may never revert to their original identities or might even revert to their identities in captivity. The families are happy and grateful for their return, but also saddened by the fact that the person they once knew has changed. However, the victims who never return to their families, and friends are devastated because they will never see them again, tell them goodbye, or they love them.
