Terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda have been tormenting the Middle East for a while, dating back to the late 1970s and early 1980s. But ISIS has been hurting the Middle East in worse ways than previous terrorist groups through the murder of innocents, giving reason to why they should be stopped. ISIS and its members have been harassing the people through sexual enslavement and mass genocide of the religious minorities. “Members also sexually enslave women, including thousands of members of the minority Yazidi community and an American aid worker, Kayla Mueller, whom the Islamic State’s leader repeatedly raped and tortured before her death. The Islamic State also has threatened to carry out genocide against religious minorities in the territories it controls and massacred thousands of Yazidi men in 2014.”(Lucas). A policy to prevent terrorist attacks was made by the Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council to prevent any more attacks. The Council explains how the public and citizens can help,“Our best defense in preventing a future terrorist attack is to have an informed public – aware of current global events and the danger signs of an attack. For instance, maintain situational awareness of your surroundings, your neighborhood, and where you shop. Is there anything out of place or out of the ordinary?”. In the opinion of the council, the best defense against terrorism is through the awareness of the people, however, in this day and age people will be more focused on their phones as well as electronics instead of their surroundings.
