For years, millions of people from around the world have come to the United States in hope for a better life. Nowadays, it’s rather hard to enter this country. It was known as the “Nation of Immigrants,” and the land of opportunity, and we need to make that true again. There are many advantages of opening ourselves to the world. Immigration is the basic foundation which we built upon to make this nation great. Bright, intellectual men and women bring in new ideas which help us progress forward as a country. People could also lose their jobs due to the U.S. closing off their borders to immigrants. But, as with any plan, there are positives and negatives. In the article Immigrants have enriched American culture and enhanced our influence in the world, the author states that, “The tourist industry, already reeling, would lose millions of foreign visitors, and American universities would lose hundreds of thousands of foreign students if our borders were closed.” This is a very good example of the decline in jobs. Tourist agency would not exist because there wouldn’t be as many people coming into the country for visits. The numbers of teacher who teach at school, universities, etc. would also decrease because there wouldn’t be as many student to teach. Many of the students that do go to school, especially universities, are immigrants. There are many more jobs that wouldn’t be as important as they are now if we did decide to close our borders As I have mentioned before, there will always be a negative side to any plan. This plan is no exception. Along with opening our borders to the rest of the world, we could potentially be exposed to threats from nations/organizations, who aren’t fond of us. I, however, have come up with a simple and effective solution for this downside. We could increase security which will watch over any moves made from our enemies.
