Everyone has their own opinion on how they view law enforcement agencies/officers. The law enforcement agencies/officers have procedures that come from a variety of sources of law which include the baseline protections of the U.S constitution for the citizens, guidelines within an agency/officer’s jurisdiction, federal and state statutes. The individuals we choose to represent our states, counties, and country plays a big role in how the law enforcement agencies work within the courtroom, within congress, and also outside on the streets. For example: the citizens select the president and congress. The president appoints the 9 Supreme Court justices while sheriffs are elected. Law enforcement within today’s society has a very extensive impact. Although many citizens aren’t affected physically by the actions of law enforcement; they are affected financially, emotionally and mentally as a community. …show more content…

Financially prisons are taking away from the communities. For example tax payers are the reasons that prisons and jails are still kept afloat. Because the citizens are paying for the wellbeing of incarcerated individuals money is being taken away from other necessities to our community such as education, rehabilitation, after school activities for youth or the general wellbeing of the citizens on the outside world. The United States pays almost $70 billion annually to house adults in prison, to place youth in detention centers, and to supervise 7.3 million individuals on probation and parole. These costs hold an increasing amount of government spending on the local and state levels. Much of the money invested into prisons could be invested into something that would help communities as a
