Net Neutrality is the modern social justice issue that affects the lower class disportionately. The Federal Communications Commission is launching an all out war against American citizens that will only get worse for those with less income due to inabilities to pay higher prices. Net Neutrality’s classification is being questioned and is becoming a huge split between the parties when this issue had been bipartisan previously. The FCC has gone to new lengths to generate power and money for themselves and the large Internet Service Providers that will monopolize the competition. Unfortunately, the vote was passed again after those who kept to keep net neutrality loss by only one vote and was not shot down. Now many states are lining up to create laws of their own to protect these regulations that are on par of net neutrality. The biggest case is California who is leading the charge with its political leaders wanting to put an end to the repeal of net neutrality. California has the strictest bill that is almost indistinguishable to that of net neutrality with additional regulations on throttling internet speeds creating fast lanes for higher prices. The FCC states that it will ban and preemptive bills looking to create their own regulations. However, Professor at Stanford Law School, Barbara van Schewick, argues, “That an agency that does not have the power to regulate does not have the power to preempt.” Basically if the FCC will not regulate the ISPs then your state can. Now this is not a full proof plan and many states will not follow suit or if they do they may not go to the same length, it is only a safety net for a plan B situation.
