Many people are split on the topic of open campuses v. closed campuses at high schools. To many students, an open campus has meant the freedom to leave school at lunchtime, as well as during other free periods. I personally believe that an open campus high school is a great idea for high schools, as “students learn responsibility and to be ready for our independent life as adults” (“Schools Split on ‘Open Campus’”, The New York Times), but that it is a privilege that needs to be earned through maturity.
