Personalised medicine could be the new revolution in modern medicine with the potential to predict, prevent and treat diseases in a way that wasn’t possible before. “Personalized medicine is an emerging practice of medicine that uses an individual’s genetic profile to guide decisions made in regard to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.”(1) Currently the medicine that we use to treat patients with a certain disease is one that has been tested and has successful results on the majority of people. However the reality is that not everyone responds in the same way to the same drug, this is determined by their DNA sequence, their genome. An example is the treatment of breast cancer, where some people may respond well to the treatment given, others may find the treatment toxic to their health or the treatment simply fails. (2) Personalised medicine is a way to treat disease with drugs that are tailored to a person’s genome instead of the concept that “one-dose-fits-all”(2)
