Hi Everyone, It cannot be argued that the pharmaceutical companies have played a crucial role in easing human sufferings through medications (Rawson, 2016, p. 28). With the enactment of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) in 1938, research and drug development have been the lifeline of each pharmaceutical company. The FFDCA requires that the pharmaceutical company and not the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) prove the safety of the drug before it can be approved for marketing (Abood, 2011). The FDA is the government agency tapped to assess an ever-increasing number of medicines for approval each year, but the United States Congress (USC) was not willing to expand the FDA’s budget.
