Physician- assisted suicide is the practice of providing terminally ill patients a prescription for medication to use with the intention of ending his or her life. According to the article “What’s Really Involved in Physician-Assisted Death?” pain was not the main reason patients made the request of physician-assisted suicide but ratherm loss of autonomy and dignity, inability to enjoy life and regular activities and other types of mental distress were the dominant motivations, the study found. Physician- assisted suicide should be legal for terminally ill patients. The patient’s family will not have to suffer and want have to watch the patients suffer for so long. Before starting physician- assisted suicide, it is made sure of that this is what the patient truly wants. If physician- assisted suicide was legal so many patients would be in peace not having to deal with all the pain they went through. The pain these patients are suffering from could continue for who knows how long, they should not have to go through the suffering if they don’t have to.

Terminally ill patients do not have the quality of life they used to have instead all of the rest of the time they have is cooped up somewhere's in a bed taking medications and having to deal with the fact that their dying and they do not know how long it could take until all the suffering will end which means the family will have to watch them suffer until their gone. If it was legal the patients would not have to suffer and would give the patient’s family some peace knowing that their not going to suffer anymore. Even before the terminally ill patients get into to much pain they can let their family members know their final wishes and this will give them and their family members peace knowing that their final wishes were taking care of and the patient can choose when they want to die before getting into more pain as time goes
