At this moment in time in the United States, I believe that the most pressing social problem among many is police brutality and misconduct. While it is a sensitive topic for a lot of individuals, I feel that it is one that should not be ignored. Personally, I have a lot of respect for the police force around the country and even have a sibling that is in the process of becoming a policeman. I think that they are a vital asset to the safety and well-being of our country and I will continue to have respect for what they do. I honestly believe that the majority of police officers in the U.S. treat everyone that they meet on the job equally and with respect. However, I do feel that there are certain individuals who are not deserving of holding a position as a police officer due to their immoral views on race, ethnicity, and/or gender. …show more content…

While it is hard to pinpoint a specific reason why this social issue is present in our country, I feel that it has escalated and gained more awareness in the past year as our political system has undergone radical change. People, including some police officers, seem to have gained a new sense of power in their positions and act out on those that they view as lesser than them or those that they don’t agree with. Citizens of our country are continually losing respect for police officers because of the actions of a few that is blasted across the media. If it continues, I fear that the lack of respect for our police across the country will outweigh the support for them and their jobs will become dangerous. Interest in their career may dissipate over time and our country would be in great need for individuals to protect their fellow citizens and enforce local and national
