Racial Profiling is considered as "a law enforcement … practice that encourages officers to stop, search, and investigate people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion" (Quezzaire and Dilascio). Racial profiling causes a distrust towards law enforcement by society, violates civil rights, and causes targeted citizens to feel unsafe and singled out. Racial profiling should be avoided regardless of the circumstances. Racial profiling exists, and should be discussed and stopped, it is unlawful, unjust, and discriminating against people of many different ethnicities.

Racial profiling is an illegal practice used by law enforcement officers. Racial profiling became illegal in 1964, "When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 guaranteed equal treatment of minorities under federal law" (DiLascio and Quezzaire). The practice was determined to be a violation of the Fourth Amendment, which led to the creation of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964. Although this act was created, the practice continued to cause problems. "...ethnic and religious minorities complained of continued discrimination at the hands of police departments... This type of profiling causes citizens to feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Citizens are targeted and singled out as suspects, without valid reasoning. Complaints about the practice have caused disagreements between citizens and law enforcement officers, which led to riots and protests. The practice also causes a distrust towards and fear of law enforcement, leading citizens or suspects to avoid cooperating and possibly withholding information. Racial profiling is an unneeded annoyance to faultless citizens who are searched or questioned without
