The negativities of slave labor and low wages A century ago, the United States plantations utilized slaves to handle various jobs. Slave labor is something of a workforce. Sometimes you will get a low wage income and get paid something different. If people are working in a harsh environments with a low income rate or no pay at all, this would be considered as slave labor. In the past, slaves were punished for not fulfilling their obligations. Low wage labor is very similar to child labor. During the 1800’s, some children would not get paid and found themselves injured on the job and would receive a low income. Slave and low wage labor is in the same category due to what people endured. To all and any workers that provide services, they should receive a reimbursement. Many of the children of African descent is still suffering falling victim of the horrible labor stories. An example of current child labor with low wages are the African diamond mines. These mines have some of most expensive diamonds available, and the workers are receiving a daily earning of one dollar. Not only do they receive low wages, starvation, abuse, and death is at an all-time high. Because majority of these mines are independently owned, these employers can implement their own rules. (Brilliant Earth, unknown author) Not only are there ridiculous child labor issues, young adults and adults can fall victim to such treatment. The people of Guangzhou, China was reported for having the same issue, so this is a global issue. According to The New York Times, the companies of this particular area of China was responsible for low wages withholding the employee’s health benefits, and exposing the workers to dangerous machines and poisonous chemical that could possible lead to death. (Barboza, 2008) The companies had to improve laws and some of these issues
