Today in society we have many health issues that are not able to be treated. Not everyone has the opportunity because they either have poor healthcare or can’t afford it from pocket when they don’t have healthcare. There’s also “slow medicine”, which is considered as evaluating the patient, going over the examines, calling other doctors and just thinking about other ways to treat a certain diagnosis. It’s something that a doctor should do on a regular basis when they have a patient that is diagnosed with an illness. American healthcare on the other hand has its way of stopping it all because they decide that they do not want to pay for certain treatments or even provide for the patient, which is what society today has problems with and why they suffer the most. “Slow medicine” is a term that Dr. Victoria Sweet came up with. It has gone down year by year and doctors just don’t give their patients the enough time anymore that they need because healthcare is not paying them or covering what needs to be covered. So, they lose patients because they can’t afford it out of pocket, that puts certain businesses in jeopardy especially private doctors. Reading an article from Dr. Sanjay Gupta, he has found about almost 10 issues that American healthcare has been causing. He claims that there has been “doctor shortages, hospital errors and infections, antibiotic resistance, more do it yourself healthcare such as apps, food deserts, caregivers for aging population, cost of Alzheimer’s, marijuana, and missing work life balance” (Gupta, Sanjay, M.D.).
