Are Steroids Worth It? Throughout the world today, many people are looking for a way to get an edge on their opponents, whether it is in their job, sport, or anything else. Most people want to be the best they possibly can, and they are willing to do whatever it takes in order to get there. For some people, doing whatever it takes includes taking steroids. These people are looking for a way to see instant physical results so they can thrive in whatever event they are competing in. What these people do not realize is the big risk they are taking with steroid use. Although there can be a positive side to steroid use, the negative side is a lot larger. Taking steroids will affect the brain’s serotonin and dopamine neurotransmitter systems. Serotonin regulates sleep patterns, movement, appetite, sexuality, and emotions. Dopamine regulates mobility, learning, emotions, appetite, and positive reinforcing effects. Both of these neurotransmitter systems play a major role in everyday life. Taking large doses of steroids can impair organs causing physical and psychological illnesses. Some of them have a perception that they might not be good enough on their own, so they juice up to get that extra boost. They will experience greater levels of strength, endurance, and enhanced athletic performance ("Effects Of Steroids - Positive And Negative Side Effects"). They would have to plan when they juice up very carefully though. Since steroids are illegal unless prescribed by a doctor, they would have to plan around upcoming drug tests and hope there are no surprise drug tests. If caught, these people would face hefty fines and suspensions.
