Introduction This research is important as certain breeds of dogs are being discriminated by some legislation. For example certain breeds of dogs are banned in the UK because of them being ‘violent’ certain people argue that animals and humans are not born violent but natured into it. This research will identify the reason behind this. The main question for this research is how some legislation discriminates against certain breeds of dogs. This project would like to examine the reasons for the legislations are and what dog owners and non- owners (victims and non-victims) think about this legislations. The legislation that this research will be focusing on is the breed specific legislation. This legislation is aimed at specific dog breeds and prohibits people from owning these dogs. These breeds have proven their stability and loyalty to humans, by becoming rescue dogs, therapy dogs working in hospitals, herding dogs and family companions for years. By banning these breeds will just make other breeds be used for vicious attacks on people and animals. The reports and statistics have proven to be flawed. A lot of people who have been a victim of a dog attack have not often be able to identify the breed of the dog and just named the dog that is on people’s minds as being a dangerous dog.
