The Dakota Access Pipeline has been a Hot topic for about the past year. It sparked attention with the public because of the unethical practices that were being used to construct the pipeline. Many people were upset with how the government decided to handle the issue. With that being said, many protests had broken out over the past several months. Those who supported pipeline argued it would be better the American People and economy. That however, does not justify the unethical practices that were used to gain access to build the Dakota Access Pipeline. There are two sides to the argument, those who support the construction of the pipeline, and those who do not. In an article written by Rebecca Hersher mentions that several political figures are coming out against the project (3). At some of these protests police seemed to get particularly aggressive. At a protest in Cannonball North Dakota, police used an aggressive strategy to “manage” the crowd. This strangely included the use of firing rubber bullets, spraying the protestors with freeing water in cold conditions, use of teargas, and concussion grenades. With the aggressive practices being used to manage the crowds there were some protestors that were injured. In a paper written by Matthew Hoyer he talks about the results of an estimated 200 to 300 people that required urgent medical care for hypothermia and other minor injuries due to the incident. While there were 17 that required hospitalization (1). It was a particularly concerning issue due to the limited space for medical care.
