In Richard Seaver’s response to the Coca Cola executive, Ira C. Herbert, he replies in a tranquil manner as if he has no worry of losing the right to the use of the slogan. Grove Press respectfully acknowledges its understanding of Coca Cola’s concern, but state that “by a vote of seven to six” the continued use of the slogan had been decided (lines 17). Throughout the first half of his letter, Seaver repetitively reassures the Coca Cola Company that Grove Press wishes NOT to steal the slogan but rather share it. This repetition is essential to Seaver’s argument as it creates a sense of trust for the reader. Seaver also exemplifies Grove Press’ reasoning through the suggestion that “sales personnel make sure that what the consumer wants is
I choose to defend the prompt of my choice in more detail. In the 1870's, as the Civil War receded into memory, the United States became a leading Industrial power. Advances in technology and new access to the immense resources of the North American continent drove American Industrialization. This industrialization brought the growth of new American cities such as Chicago, and the arrival of a flood of immigrants from all over Europe to man the factories. During the Gilded Age, businessmen reaped enormous profits from this new economy.
My arguments, observations and opinions over chapter 9 are very strong. During the period of the economic transformation many events had occurred. This chapter demonstrates the power that the American Industrial Revolution had. Not to mention, how the Market Revolution reflected the increased output of farms and factories, the entrepreneurial activities of traders and merchants. In addition, to the creation of a transportation network of roads, canals, and railroads.
Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution impacted the lives of Americans in positive and negative ways including the building of new machinery, work in factory systems and development from rural to urban society. During the Revolution there were new and improved machines that helped with everyday tasks. This includes the Cotton gin, which was invented in 1793 by a This technology efficiently removed seeds from the Cotton fiber, allowing for better use of Cotton (Appleby et al 306-307). The next step during the industrial revolution was the factory system, which allowed all manufacturing to be performed in one centralized location. This idea was first introduced by Samuel Slater, who took over the management of a cotton mill, but
Giseimy Hernandez AP World History 6.02 Industrial Revolution Assessment part 1 May 5, 2018 While the Industrial Revolution had both positive and negative effects on society and the economy, the negative effects outweighed the positive. The Industrial Revolution had many negative effects on society. For Example people, like adult and children, were working in factories. In the factories the people used coal as a power resource and after being used they became smoke. Based on this, the air and water pollution increased significantly.
The industrial revolution was a curse as well as a blessing. while i was doing my research i came across many photos and articles of reasons why this was bad. as shown in the quote, “ You went down one step from the foul area into the cellar which a family of humans lived.” (Gaskell 290). is shown here the person is describing how bad the living situations were for the lower class.
The Industrial Revolution was an era notorious for its technological improvements throughout Britain. During this time, rural communities began to become industrial. It signaled a shift to powered machinery, factories, and mass production of goods. Iron, textile industries, and significant inventions like the steam engine played critical roles during this time. Vast improvements were made in transportation, communication, production, and banking.
Zaid Alhechemy 9D Me.haider 3rd hour 10/14/17 Industrialization in America was a time of many advantages. The industrialization brung many inventions that helped the U.S., during the mid 1800's and early 1900's. These inventions are still being used to this day. Advantages, some inventions influenced others to create their own, they did cause bad to use them, that made things in America corrupt, they began to do good things though just to stay in power no matter the cost. One advantage was the things people were making helped education and the economy.
Despite many dreadful facts that happen throughout the Industrial revolution, there is still some positive facts that overpower the negative. Many played a role as an inventor to help improve the work ethic during the Industrial Revolution, such as John Kay who invented shuttle or Richard Arkwright who invented the water frame. These machine was being inserted into the factories, and with the help of machine, factory were able to double or even triple the speed of production instead of relying on manpower. As the result, the Industrial Revolution help the British a great amount of growth in their economy. Before the industrial revolution started from the year 1700-1760, the capital stock was 0.7, Labour Force around 0.3, Total factor inputs
Throughout the late nineteenth-century, improvements in transportation and technology drastically changed the circumstances of American life. Immigration into the country brought new demand for goods, jobs, and places to live, pushing America towards a non-agrarian society and creating an entirely new market teeming with opportunity. Primarily due to economic advances for both industry and consumer, industrialization greatly benefitted the United States. Industrialization sparked a major change in the way goods were made, consolidating many small plants and companies into larger, more efficient manufacturing departments. As stated in The Beginnings of “Big Business” in American Industry by Alfred D. Chandler, “The creation of such a manufacturing
Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.
The industrial revolution started the times where Americans no longer had so much manual labor. This was the beginning of technology, machine-based work, an all around more americans surpassing the manual labor that needed to be done. It seemed like a new world would await for all americans, and many to come. I was born in 2002, this means I was born into the age of technology. Technology was beginning to thrive.
In conclusion, Fourth Industrial Revolution is a new era that will put the social and environmental at risk where it will eliminate human’s job opportunity, generate inequality, and result in environmental degradation. The emerging technologies tend to transform human’s work, lives, and society. Not to mention, the emerging technologies that are growing exponentially, will definitely catch human unpreparedly with the unpredictable idea and trend that will suddenly pop up. Human should have aware that the technologies could have the pro and con. If a human takes it for granted, the consequences could be disastrous.
Nationalism and industrialization are two factors that have heavily shaped the world throughout history, from nationalism being a cause for countless wars and imperialism to unifying and shaping countries. Industrialization on the other hand still shapes our world today just as much as it did in the 18th century. During the industrial revolution more efficient ways to farm, new jobs, and advances in medicine were created and improved. In spite of all the positives of industrialization with it also came child labor, pollution, and later on, more deadly weapons, Today industrialization has led to many technology advances which made life more efficient. Issues today, although not as dastardly as child labor, include privacy (net neutrality) and
The Industrial Revolution began over 200 years ago. It changed the way in which many products, including cloth and textiles, were manufactured. It is called a "revolution" because the changes it caused were great and sudden. It greatly affected the way people lived and worked. This revolution helped to bring about the modern world we know today in many ways.
