The trail of Tears was an unethical decision implemented by the government of the United State. The President Jackson used force to push the native American out of their lands. The cherokee (chair-uh-kee) tribe was a tribe located in the southeastern part of the United States in states like Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Descendants now mostly live in Oklahoma. Many of the descendants now live in Oklahoma because of the Trail of tears which was the removal of Native americans by forcing them to Indian reservation, and if the tribes didn’t go by will the american army would force them.
The Trail of Tears was a massive transport of thousands of Native Americans across America. After the Indian removal act was issued in 1830 by president Andrew Jackson, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee, and Seminole tribes were taken from their homelands and transported through territories in what many have called a death march. The government, on behalf of the new settlers ' cotton picking businesses, forced the travel of one hundred thousand Native Americans across the Mississippi River to a specially designated Indian territory for only the fear and close-mindedness of their people. The Native Americans were discriminated against by not only their new government, but also the people of their country and forced to undertake one of the most difficult journeys of their lives.

Andrew Jackson is significant because of his help to protect America and helped defeat the British. Andrew Jackson was a huge contributing factor of Indian removal. Trail of Tears: In 1838 and 1839, as part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy, the Cherokee nation was forced to give up its lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate.
President Jackson instated the Indian Removal Act. removed thousands of Native American families, specifically Cherokees, from their homes in the Carolinas and Georgia so that white families could move into their land because the population was expanding and there was not enough room for everyone. The Native American people were forced to walk from their homes to a new area in present day Oklahoma. The Native Americans made this walk during the fall and winter of 1830 which became known as “the trail of tears”. This was a brutal journey to Oklahoma, which many diseases spread and many people died of illness, exhaustion, starvation, and cold.
While making this gruesome travel more than 4,000 Indians died from disease, starvation and treacherous conditions. This travel became known as the “trails of tears”. These Native Americans were not how white settlement described them. Many of the tribes adopted Euro-american practices and created their own communities with schools and churches, even developed their own languages and created bilingual newspapers.

Jackson was not president at this time but his policies still led to the trail of tears, he did lead the Indian Removal act though and he was apart of Manifest Destiny, these reasons apply why Jackson was a villain. Jackson was a terrible role model for this country. He killed many innocent people for what he thought was for the good of the U.S.A.
Even though the War of 1812 led to the victory of the U.S over the British this greatly weakened the Indian tribes. As a result of this defeat over the English many tribes were forced out of the “New Nation”. In 1835 this became known as the “Trail of Tears”. All Five Civilized Tribes were forced into Indian Territory. The name awarded to the path the Indians had to travel fitted well.

Being forced to move westward for the American benefit cost them greatly. The Cherokees’ once rich culture was damaged from this forced movement. Cherokee men were strong and fearless fighters.
Some Indians relocated peacefully, while most resisted. The Cherokee Indians were a particularly difficult tribe to relocate because they demanded to stay in Georgia. Eventually, the Cherokees settled to sell the land to the federal government for $5 million dollars. The relocation of Cherokee Indians became known as the Trail of Tears, where 4,000 Indians died because of the mistreatment of the Indians while relocating. While relocating, the military that was supposed to escort the Cherokees would take their blankets and food to sell for profit (Jones, 290).
Nobody's lives would be the same after losing the ones they had lost during the long journey. The Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears were terrible events for the Native American people to live through. They lost lives, supplies, homes, and family memories.
The settlers also called the “white men” believed that the movement of the Indians would bring peace. The settlers also believed that they needed the land more than the native Americans so taking the land was a must do thing. Although there have been many different opinions on the trail of tears the Indians should not have been forced to move out of their homelands. Leading up to the Trail of tears Migration from the original Cherokee Nation began in the early 1800’s. Some Cherokees, that were not comfortable with the whites moving in on their territories, the Indians moved west on their own and settled in other areas of the country.
Trail of Tears The name of the Trail of Tears came from a Cherokee phrase that meant “the place where they cried.” In my opinion it was not correct from the European colonists to evict all the indigenous Americans, they had been living there for thousand of years and only they had right to live there. The people were treated with disrespect, and one of the only reasons this happened was because the government decided that land, gold and other finite resources were more important than lives of Indians.
