Emma Taylor English 1010 Mrs. Ralison B7 UPS and the Package Wars: Use of Rhetorical Elements The way authors choose to phrase their words can have a significant and long lasting impact both on writing, and how audiences will receive an overall message. This is a concept that Jennifer Gonnerman certainly did not overlook when she was writing the article "UPS and the Package Wars" Throughout the duration of this essay, the article will be summarized, and then Jennifer Gonnerman's choices will be discussed as they relate to the decisions she makes with her words. It's clear that the author's word choice is effective, specific, and relevant to the text as far as the audience, purpose, stance, context, genre, and medium are concerned.
USPS is obliged to work seven days due to high volumes of packages during holidays, and rates are cheaper compared to other shipping organizations. FedEx and USPS do not deliver on Sundays because of increased demerits; but these may be much better choices if they can attain customer
It all started in the year 1754 when George Washington’s whistling bullets were shot. These bullets were aimed at a French scouting party stationed at Fort Duquesne. General Washington ordered his men to open fire and started a conflict known as the French and Indian War. The British and French, wrestled for territory and power. However, the French troops had an advantage.
, Britain also implemented the Stamp Act, which required the purchase of tax stamps to be attached to all printed goods. Due to the large amount of printed goods in the colonies, the total cost of these stamps was monumental, causing widespread protests, boycott of British goods, and the assembly of the Stamp Act Congress. Delegates of nine colonies met in New York as the Stamp Act Congress in order to prepare a Declaration of Rights along with a list of grievances. However, Parliament ignored these notions and continued to implement more acts on the colonies, one of these acts being the Quartering Act, which required the colonies to quarter, or provide food and lodging for British soldiers. Many colonists refused to follow this act due to
Anyway, Stamp Act was working negatively to us as Sugar Act was (117). As you know I am a part of patriots community. Right after the Stamp Act was established, we, Sons of Liberty in New York, attempted to resolve the problem and proposed "a Congress of the Sons of Liberty" in order to establish a uniform society (117). Our effort failed, but Committees of Correspondence were created, loosely connecting all the colonies. This connection helped to unite colonies together.
The United States Postal Service has been used for many years, sending mail far and near. It is still being used today. Dating back to the colonial times of America, mail was delivered by the Pony Express, today mail is being sent by cars, airplanes, and ships. Our country is long overdue for restructuring the USPS. The USPS should be restructured so they can gain revenue, still have convenience, and to keep up to date with developing technology.
This shows that since the railroads were improving, and becoming easier to get mail through. So, why not come up with an easier way for farm families to get the things they need? Another example of this is in the article “The Rise of Amazon'' on page 24 the author states “And with the internet came an amazing new way to shop. All you had to do was click on what you wanted and enter your credit card information and address. In about a week, your purchase will arrive at your front door.”
Under the Harper government, hundreds of federal research facilities and programs, have faced cuts to their budgets or been shut down, facing outrage from scientists, politicians and Canadians alike. In six years the Harper government dismissed more than 20000 scientists and aided in the closing of hundreds of programs, ranging from climate change to ocean toxicity to public health. Despite these cuts, the office of the Minister of State for Science and Technology has stated “Our government has made record investments in science… We are working to strengthen partnerships to get more ideas from the lab to the marketplace and increase our wealth of knowledge” (CBC 1). Many of the scientific community cite these cuts to a refocusing of government,
Won't USPS collapse if their finances continue to rise and their income can barely fend for their needs? If that will be the case, one solution that we can highly think of is to privatize USPS or perhaps to open the competition in postal markets. Though there are still people who are using the services of postal service, we cannot erase the fact that it is becoming obsolete as the internet continues to grow and makes communication easier and
“The Postal Service experienced a 13 percent drop in mail volume… lost $3.8 billion” (Source C). Consumers have continuously use the Internet as their source of communication and information. With the internet use, the postal service loses an immense amount of money and the production of mail. Developing an emailing program means that the USPS can cooperate along with the technological advances in this generation. Emailing is a fast and easy way to communicate and send information to and from.
In a changing society it’s pretty easy to lose sight of your homestyle traditions when nowadays you can just send a birthday text or post a happy holidays post on Facebook to your friends and family. Before, people would have to deliver letters or send out birthday cards with hopes that they would get delivered on time to the recipient. With just a click of a button and a few texts in can get delivered in seconds, it's no wonder people have gradually accepted the idea of this newfound form of communication. Despite the benefits, it actually affects the United States Post Office. The USPS has been delivering telecommunications around for centuries and has successfully helped the U.S with delivering reliable and efficient communications but lately
In 2009, the volume of mail received by the USPS dropped a staggering twenty six billion letters; more than has ever been dropped before. However, this is not all. The mail volume has been decreasing since 2007. Clearly, this shows a need to make changes to the USPS, an institution on the decline. This trend of losing volume comes from online communication becoming a better form of spreading information.
We rely more on technology for pretty much everything. The new form of writing is now typing on keyboards and reviewing everything online. So, not everyone will need to write everything down, anymore. Most people 's jobs depend entirely on technology, such as a desk receptionist, as most of the time they will be on computers, typing documents and so forth. It 's much faster doing it this way as in
Chapter 1. Introduction The transportation, e-commerce and business services are very competitive and sensitive to price and quality of service. FedEx not only faces competitors from international companies that perhaps subsidized by foreign government, but also competes with regional companies that operate smaller but each has competitive advantage which would in turn reduce FedEx’s revenues and market share. For example, according to reuters.com.
If this question was raised twenty, even twenty-five years ago, the obvious answer would be no, as using the postal service was one of the best forms of communication. However, in this age surrounded by bigger and better forms of communication than the postal service, would we still need a rule like the postal rule? This brings several questions such as: would it be better if we didn’t have the postal rule? What would change if we rid of the postal rule? What wouldn’t change?
