THE SCANEAGLE
In today’s militaries around the globe, technology is the future of how the battle will be fought. For the United States to stay state-of-the-art, it must modernize how nemesis are collected. The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) is at the forefront of this change. With the introduction of smaller, more capable UAS, how will the United States Army lead the charge? The ScanEagle is an UAS that leads the way in Unmanned Aircraft and is paving the way for how the market will evolve.
The United States Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, as well as a host of foreign militaries currently employ the ScanEagle (Boeing, 2018). The United States Army (US Army) uses a similar system the Shadow. The Shadow is similar to the ScanEagle, however it lacks the upgraded systems and smaller size. The ScanEagle has maneuverability that the Shadow does not have, is more stealth like, and over all a better system for the United States Army and its mission partners.
This system has a wingspan of 10.2 feet and a length of 5.6 feet. It weighs in at 39 pounds making it light enough for a maintainer or operator to carry the unit to its destination. The ScanEagle’s small engine is powerful enough to …show more content…

It track’s wildfires, survey flooding, and monitor drilling operation over the artic. In 2017, The ScanEagle provided near real time support to the U.S. during Hurricane Harvey and the wildfires that ravaged the west coast. The ScanEagle system deployed to multiple sites around Houston to help aid in the emergency response efforts. It provided search and rescue, damage pollution, critical infrastructure assessments, security, and over watch protection. The team was able to identify and locate a submerged ship, create debris maps, and other information to aid Corpus Christi to reopen its port within six days (Golden,
