The Pros And Cons Of Using Wind Power

486 Words2 Pages

Wind power is a type of renewable energy, which means that the source of the energy will not run out.
Wind power is a type of solar energy, the winds flow depends on the earth's terrain, water, and plants. Electricity can be created by the use of wind turbines. The wind turbines blades turn around a rotor, the rotor is connected to a shaft that spins a generator to create electricity. Wind turbines consist of a blade or a rotor, a drive train, a tower, and other equipment (like controls.) Wind resources are defined by wind power density classes.
Energy is stored in a wind turbine by battery storage, compressed air storage, in hydrogen fuel cells, or pumped storage. The energy that is released goes into an electrical power grid, burned with fuel to provide mechanical energy, or used in batteries. The energy that wind turbines produce depends on the size and the wind’s speed. The normal percent of power produced is 30-40% but it does drop greatly when winds slow down. An average wind turbine can produce enough electricity for 332 houses a year. …show more content…

Cons of using wind power are, the wind can be unsteady and unpredictable, people complain of noises, they affect wildlife such as birds and bats. Most of the cons of wind power can be solved, for example the noises can be reduced with insulation. Environmental impacts of wind power/turbines range from short term noises to long term influences on species and habitats. These include complaints that the ground vibrates and that the turbines produce sounds that can be a
