The latest Windows Operating System is Windows 10, which is a personal computer operating system. Windows 10 was developed and released by Microsoft as a part of the Windows NT family of operating systems.
Microsoft chose to skip Windows 9 as a way to discontinue with earlier versions and Windows 8 in particular instead of gradual change. Windows 10 is designed to address common criticisms of Windows 8, such as a lack of enterprise-friendly features and keyboard interfaces and poor integration of touch.
Microsoft described Windows 10 as a “universal apps” that is expanding on Metro-style apps, these apps is designed to run across multiple Microsoft product families with nearly identical code. This includes PCs, smartphones, tablets , embedded systems, Xbox One, and Surface Hub. It proposed two distinct user interface modes: a user interface adjusted for mouse and keyboard, and a "Tablet mode" aimed for touchscreens. Users can toggle between these two modes according to their preference, and Windows can prompt or automatically switch when certain events occur, such as restricting Tablet mode on a tablet if a keyboard or mouse is plugged in, or when a 2-in-1 PC is converted to its laptop state. In Tablet mode, programs default to a maximized view, and the taskbar contains a back button and hides buttons for opened or pinned programs; to switch programs, Task View is used instead.
