The federal government does not have full, complete power of the government, due to the fact the federal government has to power to tax, regulate commerce, and put laws into place if and only if laws are so called “necessary and proper.” Another thing was for each branch of government to have their own separation of powers and check and balance other branches of government. The Constitution came to fruition as an answer for the issues and numerous shortcomings of the Articles of Confederation. Not every person concurred with the Constitution or even the said issues emerging from the Articles of Confederation. These people were called Anti-Federalists and their thoughts would not be as effective as the thoughts of the Federalists, since Anti-Federalist thought's reflected numerous qualities of the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution should have been endorsed with a specific end goal to conjure change and solvethe issues of the Articles of Confederation. The Federalists wanted a representative democracy under which there would be a strong central government. Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government had little power other than to declare war, borrow and coin money, and regulate trade with Native Americans, along with a few others; it lacked the authority to regulate commerce among states, levy taxes, create a standing army, or prevent discrimination among states (Lowi) . The issues caused by the lack of authority of the central government quickly called for the need for change. The Articles of Confederation was written by the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary War, to basically give the colonies some sense of a unified government. On the other hand, the Constitution was created by the founding fathers to establish a federal government for United States of America, and assign to federal government certain powers. Both documents had similar purpose, but one was more stronger and efficient. There were many reasons why the Constitution was stronger than the Articles of Confederation, and it’s simply because the Articles of Confederation had too many weaknesses.
The Constitution will fix America and is critical to our safety. After fighting for so long and hard to secure independence from the British rule, the young United States of America needed to come together to form a strong nation. Having literally sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears to free themselves from the tyrannical oppression of an over-powered central government, the people wanted to ensure that they would not be trading one for another. Before Federalism, during the Confederation this process got difficult because of the absence of funds, it was a trouble to raise money to pay the expenses of the service of soldiers and other situations, but later it got easier because the power of raising taxes came into effect and made economic situation more practical. Furthermore, this power strengthened the validity of the processes to exercise justice with objectivity and fairness. It had the power to make and modify laws in order to carry out its power.
The Articles had many weaknesses so we as americans had to create a stronger government to run our country on. I think the Constitution was a good idea for America because it fixed many of our country’s problems which were from the Articles of Confederation. The constitution gave us a national currency, gave us the bill of rights amendments, and made it so the powers were split equally between three branches. The ratification was good
We gained two important pieces of American history from the discourse between the Federalist and the Anti-Federalists. First we gained a more balanced Constitution with the addition of the Bill of Rights. Second being the Federalist Papers. The federalist papers are a collection of 85 articles and essays written. These papers explained the Constitution and its meaning to many who were not informed.
