Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence to declare war against Great Britain to retain freedom from their tyranny. Within this document, Jefferson stated that citizens should implement their rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. The primary reason of this phrase is to create a democracy where no emperor rules every aspect of one’s life, but rather a representative the entire nation as whole decides to have. This enables the citizen to become individuals and independent for their desires and goals. The “pursuit of Happiness” is a representation of a citizen striving to achieve what they see as their goal. Achieving a goal in life is happiness whether it is some form of property such as having a great job or family. Jefferson’s idea of happiness for Americans is the opportunity to accomplish goals that have been set by the individual them self. Citizens are giving the chance to become the person they desire to be, whether it be a very renowned super star or a simple-minded quiet individual. Jefferson’s goal of happiness has been achieved by the United States since freedom is the essence of America. Freedom correlates to the happiness Jefferson’s desired because the citizens of the United States have the choice to find their own happiness within the nation. Happiness of a citizen is represented in numerous ways such as higher education. America has created an educational system where practically any citizen, whether poor or rich, has the opportunity of receiving higher education allowing them to have a content future. The happiness within the citizens is the foundation of the United States of America. Without goals of finding happiness, convenience within the nation would not exist. The internet is a creation of someone who wants to share information with the world. Now people in America can communicate with others around the world and construct a universal friendship with the rest of the world. Jefferson’s goal of happiness has been achieved within today’s era.
