The article can be seen as an introduction on sociology, which tells the early history of sociology and what sociology is. Sociology as systematic science which shifts people’s mind, and brings individuals and the public together through three levels of social structures; Microstructure, Macrostructure, and Global structure. One of the famous documentary as known as the “sociological imagination”, was contributed by C. Wright Mills. The “sociological imagination” has typically stated the relation between “history” and “biography”. C. Wright Mills mentioned the concept of “the quality of mind”, in other words, is the ability to think and build up a link between self and the world. For example, suicide theory is one of the famous work that well performed the terms of “functionalism”. In Durkheim’s suicide theory, he found that suicide rate is significantly related to the level of “social solidarity”. In that case, social solidarity maintains social stability, and helps people to find a common sense of value in order to avoid psychological disorder. In contrast, Karl Marx and Max Weber are more focus on the conflicts in social life. Marx was particularly looking at the conflicts between classes which caused the social inequality. Similar but differently, Weber adapted some of Marx’s ideas, but he splits his attentions on symbolic interaction. Weber claims that the factors like politics and religions are important to understand the interpersonal communities. However, Feminism was generally ignored by the early sociologists, due to the issue of feminism was appeared from the modern sociological enterprise. The meaning of transnationalism in the article is “transformation of its international”. The author argued that New Zealand’s historical form of transnationalism which connected with Britain has changed and renewed. However, it causes issues, and issues getting complex. The article stated that there is a tension between indigenous people and immigration as they were arguing the ownership of the resources. In the nineteen centuries, New Zealanders were largely referring to Britain and European settler, the culture and social economy are both linked to Britain.
