On the second night of March in 2016 in the quaint city of Burlington, Iowa, the body of 16-year-old Kedarie Johnson was found stuffed in an alley with two gunshots to the chest, a plastic bag shoved down his throat, and a bottle of bleach by his side. His murder in cold blood triggered a cascade of events that led to the murder trials of two men, questionable and controversial federal involvement backed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and new light shed on continuing debates of gender identity inclusivity policies and legislature in the justice system. The Victim and His Murderers: Context A “popular junior, known for his infectious laugh and dazzling grin,” (Davey, 2017) Kedarie was an admired member of his community whose sudden death shook the inconsequential city he’d lived in. His family moved from the West Side of Chicago in hopes of a better future to the predominantly white area.
The Murder of the Hollywood Starlet A young hollywood starlet was brutally murdered in 1947 with no killer identified to this day. This is real case that still puzzles investigators today. The woman in question was named Elizabeth Short, but is more widely known as the “Black Dahlia.” She was given this nickname by the press because of the sheer, black clothing she tended to wear (“The Black Dahlia Murder - Read All about it in FBI Records.”).
Dhir Rana Due of how important this subject is, rape must be mentioned. It has appeared several times, including in our books, news broadcasts, newspapers, movies, and court cases. She may have been with Troy, and he may have been taking care of her, but definitely not in the way she was explaining it. The thought of his daughter and Troy being together made his stomach turn. Athena tried to reassure him that their daughter was still indeed a virgin. In her words, “A mother always knows.”
The audience’s thoughts towards her at first may have been sorrowful, but she does not want any of it. Instead, she wants people to see her for her strengths rather than her weaknesses. On the outside she may look like someone who has given up of
The information included in incidents in the life of a Slave girl reveals the nature of slavery as inhumane and cruel. Slavery, as it is evident from the text, has significantly affected the southern area. Many women became a victim of sexual harassment and were mistreated by slave owners. George Saunders first published The Semplica Girl Diaries in The New Yorker in 2012 and then again in his collection of short stories Tenth of December, in 2013. The main characters are a middle aged, unnamed man and his family (a wife, two daughters and a son). In an interview Saunders admitted that the inspiration for this twisted story came from a dream which explains the origin of a strange concept in it— Semplica girls, women from underdeveloped countries paid to hang in rich people’s gardens, connected to each other by a wire in their brains. However, the main message is a conscious writing choice. This story explores the struggles deprived people go through and choices they make when facing them.
The goal of the 415 BCE play, The Trojan Women was to discourage war in the ancient Mediterranean world. The play showed the hardships that came with war in an attempt to end violent conflict. The same can be said about the 1971 film. The cinematized version of the play was released amidst the peak of Vietnam protest and aimed to show, yet again, the consequences of war. The film is one of the more interesting war films because its main characters are not the soldiers, but the people affected by the loss that war brought them.

At the beginning of the Progressive Era, 1890, the reform efforts were primarily to “clean up the nation’s cities,” but as the momentum cycled into full swing it turned into a much larger project than originally anticipated (Schultz 2014). The two main groups who were involved were the followers of Social Gospel and women, but later, as interest increased Progressivism found its way into political circles and other forums. The middle class was especially attracted to the idea, but only if it did not intrude on their everyday lives which turned out to be impossible. Moreover, as it grew it changed shape to influence how administrators were selected, how our education systems developed, and it aided in improving the workforce community. The primary reason for the spread of Progressivism throughout the nation was by the media, otherwise through journalism (Schultz 2014).

The Rape of Lucrece by Miriam Jacobson, links the word “cipher” with rape. Ciphers are used in conjunction with Tarquin's and Lucrece's bodies. Tarquin's authoritative attempt to silence Lucrece fails in “the knowledge of the rape surfaces repeatedly throughout the text in circular and cryptic ciphers, configuring Lucrece's body as a succession of Os and as a secret text constantly reveal” (Jacobson 336). The verb "to cipher" occurs after Lucrece has been raped; whereas, "to cipher" used in association with Tarquin means to indicate an absence in Tarquin's baton sinistre. The shame of rape has been "charactered" onto Lucrece and she fears “she will become a text that even the illiterate can decipher” (Jacobson 347).
