The Raven The poem The Raven written by Edgar Allan Poe, could be interpreted in many different ways. It can be seen as a deranged lunatic who is hallucinating just finally breaks the last string and had finally gave into his madness, or even just a man who misses his late wife Lenore. I am sure that the narrator in the story was a very normal and happy man who used to love the life he lived. However, when his wife died I think that he sank so far into grief that he slowly started to slip away into madness. The raven flew into his room, and stayed perched in his room no matter what he tried to do. In this stanza the narrator has a sliver of hope, hoping that his wife really isn’t gone and that she might still be alive. When he heard the knock on the door he was hoping it was Lenore only to come to a realization that she really is gone and no one was at the door. Possibly he thought that he was also just hearing things when he found out that nobody was knocking on his door. The narrator was also feeling as if everyone who comes into his life just leaves in my opinion. It says,” on the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.” this is when the raven comes into his room and perches on his chamber door. I think that in his head he wanted to just feel at peace and for the Raven to go away, but subconsciously he knew that he would always be sad from the loss of his wife and that he would always miss her. Possibly the thought of this is what caused him to start to break out in anger and start to yell at the Raven to go away. This anger from hearing these answers that he obviously did not want to hear is what probably caused him to slip into madness or the be stuck in the grief from the events that had happened forever or for a very long
