Both the film Sunset Boulevard and the novel Haunting of Hill House are set in a gothic context. I found similarities in the way both main characters from the novel and film, maintained relationships with others. In contrast I found that the feelings associated with the two main characters, Norma Desmond and Eleanor were presented differently. I also found the representation of the gothic in the settings of both the novel and film contradictory. It is evident that both characters Norma and Eleanor had self hatred, which made their relationships with others difficult.
The movie The Matrix has many similar themes and differences to “The Allegory of the Cave”. The Matrix is about a man named Neo, he believes that he’s a normal man with a normal life but then he is contacted by a man named Morpheus. Morpheus exposes Neo to the truth that his world, where he is just regular Tom Anderson is made up. The Matrix , was created by sentient machines that subdue the human population, while their bodies ' heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source. Neo is reluctant to accept this truth that his old world, the matrix it is called, does not really exist.

“The Way to Rainy Mountain” is organized very well, it includes three narrative voices. Throughout this novel the first narrative voice is about the Kiowa legends. Then Momaday has a paragraph of contexts that relates to the legend. The author gives the reader a bit of his life by relating a family experience he had. Because some of the Kiowa legends and history go with Momadays own family history, then this three voice narration allows the author to have great detail about the Kiowa’s way of life in every way.
“The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato, An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen, and A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt all have in common a person that is challenged by a group of people on their beliefs, ideas, as well as knowledge. In “The Allegory of the Cave”, one person is challenged based on his knowledge about the world outside the cave. Next, An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen, Dr. Thomas Stockmann is challenged by the people of his town on his belies of the water being contaminated that later is proven to be true because he sends a sample to be tested. Lastly, A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt, Thomas More is challenged by King Henry and his followers on his idea of divorce because he is dedicated to the Catholic Church which doesn’t approve of King Henry divorce. Furthermore, I believe Dr. Thomas Stockmann is a greater hero than Thomas More.

From the practice of agriculture to masculine frontier fantasies, Cronon argues that Americans have historically defined wilderness as an “island,” separate from their polluted urban industrial homes (69). He traces the idea of wilderness throughout American history, asserting that the idea of untouched, pristine wilderness is a harmful fantasy. By idealizing wilderness from a distance, he argues that people justify the destruction of less sublime landscapes and aggravate environmental conflict.
Compare narrative point of view between “The Story of an Hour” and “Hills Like White Elephants” There are two stories that we have read with our instructor in class both of them agreed on the same point of view. Women should be treated well and care of their emotions. They are humans that the most sensitive in the world. The culture and society was giving rules that the woman have to stayed at the house and just be house maids without any thinking of working outside the house. The other thing, the old culture and society looks that the man have to be over the woman and obey the man with whatever he asks for even if he told something bad to do, the woman have to accept and not refuse.
Throughout the short story (1), “Hills Like White Elephants,” Ernest Hemingway is speaking about a seemingly unwanted pregnancy and a woman’s uneasiness with going through an abortion. However, Hemingway never explicitly says in this work of fiction (2) that it is about abortion or that the woman, Jig, is uncomfortable with it, but uses symbolism (3) to present this to the audience. At the time “Hills like White Elephants” was published, in 1927, abortion was illegal in most places and a very taboo subject that wasn’t to be openly discussed in public. Thus, Hemingway relied greatly upon the use of symbolism to get his message across for this reason as well as the third person narrator (4) that did not give insight into the character’s thoughts within this piece of literature (5) . He uses symbols such as the train station, white hills, the baggage, and the drinks to point towards the underlying internal conflict (6) of Jig’s decision that is being heavily influenced by the American man, who wants Jig to get the abortion.
Motherhood In the story “ Hills like white elephants” by Ernest Hemingway is a fascinating story, set at a train station at Zaragosa, Spain. This story first appeared in a short story collection titled Men without Women, which was published in 1927. In their dialogue, conflict is created as the characters face what most readers believe to be the obstacle of unexpected pregnancy.
By definition a “White Elephant” in literature is a possession which its owner cannot dispose of and whose cost is out of proportion to its usefulness. In the following short story, the situation that the couple is in can be described as a “White Elephant”. Throughout the story a couple, a Spanish woman and an American man, are sitting at a train station waiting for their train. While there, they decide to talk about the issue at hand, a pregnancy. Jig, the Spanish woman, is eager to keep the unborn child as the American man who is the father is not.
Compare and Contrast A Christmas Carol is full of many twists and turns, and has been written in many different versions. Writers have taken artistic liberties and have added or taken away to the beloved Christmas story to make it their own. No two versions are going to be exactly similar, and most definitely are going to have many differences. The play and the movie both follow the basic plotline of the classic novel, A Christmas Carol.
T The Mist Compare and Contrast In 1980, the book The Mist, written by Stephen King, was released. It got very popular later on, so they decided to make it a movie 27 years later. The book is a horror tale following the life of David Drayton and a large group of civilians trying to survive a thick mist that has ‘enveloped the entire town. Not only can you barely see through it, but it contains some of the most out of this world creatures.
The Female Desire to be Free The story takes in place in the 1920’s. During that era, women were living under the influence of men. They were not so free to make decisions for themselves without being judged upon by society. Seeing a pregnant woman who was unwed was viewed upon negatively.
