Shakespeare's Macbeth story starts in the 11th century Scotland during a battle between Scotland, led by king Duncan, against invading powers of Norway and Ireland. After Scotland's victory Macbeth ran into three witches who prophesy that he will become thane of Cawdor and then king. Soon after, Macbeth discovers he has been made thane of Cawdor, which leads him to believe the rest of the prophecy (22). When king Duncan comes to stay at Macbeths castle, he plans to kill him. After the king is found dead Macbeth kills the guards and seeks to kill his best friend Banquo because he is the only other person who knows about the prophesies. Macbeth goes on killing people to stay on the throne until his death on August 15, 1057, when he was defeated in battle by Malcolm and the English army
