“The Red Badge of Courage” written by Stephan Crane was a story written based on war, from the viewpoint of a man who looked forward to battle. The storyline was fresh and new because it gave the reader a feeling of encouragement. This story had realistic scenes, with great details. The author makes one feel like he or she is in the war, and experience the real life events.The strong use of diction makes the story have vivid imagery,. 2. Crane describes Flemings experience, surrounded by all these bodies, in great detail. The reader learns that the battle is gruesome, and there are many lives lost. We also learn, as the reader, that Fleming is now experiencing the real effects of war. The diction in this sentence is graphic and intense. The reader is visualizing the truth of a war battle. 5. The purpose of the Chancellorsville account of battle was to describe the actions of movement during war. The “guns were established in battery,” describes the men ready for war, and attack the enemy. The author wanted to explain how the attack was happening, and what order actions needed to be in. The vehicles or war were described, as well as its’ importance. 6.Crane is describing how difficult it was for the men during battle. These men experienced pain, and excessive hunger. The soldiers had to move around the wounded, with sores, while having the starvation feeling. These were some of the symptoms from the aftermath of the battles. The author is able to capture the readers attention by informing the reader the need for food was to the extreme. Men in battle were not only dying from bullets, but from a lack of nutrients. One day, I woke up excited and ready to start my day, when I suddenly the screams from my mom pieced my ears. She had to give me some good news. She walked into my room that morning to surprise me saying, “You were nominated to run for the great event happening in Boston this weekend.” I got out of my bed, and started packing my clothes for the big marathon. I had to catch the 12 noon flight, that same day. I got everything, as quickly as possible, and headed out my house, heading straight to the airport. I remember my mom saying on the car ride to be careful out there, because large events can be dangerous. She also told me to be aware of my surroundings. This statement stayed in the back of my mind, but in reality, I was arriving to Boston, clueless to what the dangers could have been. I cleared my mind, ready to run a marathon, and have fun with the competition. The marathon started the next day at 1:00pm, I woke up early, and started getting dressed. I had enough time for a good nutritional breakfast for the big day. I got to the starting line, and began my stretches. They blew the whistle for all the competitors to start, we all ran off, eager to get to the finish line. Little did I and the public know, that next moment will be tragic, and catastrophic. Right after I passed the orange building, I remember seeing, and hearing a loud explosion go off. I felt a heat wave creep cover my entire back.
