Loss of Innocence In the book The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros demonstrates in her writing how a child can be forced to mature too rapidly. Esperanza encounters sexism, racism, and discrimination towards the poor that impacted her paradigm of the world around her. The motif occurring throughout the novel is how a young girl must become a woman before they are ready. In the chapter “The Monkey Garden”, Esperanza makes one of her final transitions into the woman, her environment forces her to be, this is shown by the change of her opinion of her shoes, the realization of woman accepting manipulation by men, and her loss of childlike interest in the Monkey Garden.
The Crucible is an allegory to the Red Scare for many reasons, but one is that they are both run by lies spread by people to put themselves out of harm's way. The Crucible was written and used to express what was going on during this period with the Red Scare. “They were hounded by law enforcement… and fired them from their jobs” because of what they believed in their rule of terrorism, in The Crucible where people were hung because of their beliefs. Another example of The Crucible being an allegory to the Red Scare is how in The Crucible, Abigail Williams was over exaggerating her statement that she could see and talk to the devil. Just like how “McCarthy and Hoover… exaggerating that possibility” in the Red Scare.
The 5 groups, Seneca, Oneida, Cayunga, Onondaga, and Mohawk, had be battling with each other for many years. Many had died and it had become enough for Hiawatha (Onondaga) and The Peacemaker Deganawidah (Huron). In c. 1150, they had decided it was time to join and create peace throughout the groups. They decided that clan mothers would chose the council chiefs or sachems. If these elected officials were not doing what they were elected to do they were given the power to remove officials.
Science is too straight, according to Manil Suri, who wrote an article expressing his thoughts and feelings on the reasons why science is straight. I agree with Suri when he expresses how STEM is slowly changing to today’s times, not recognizing its L.G.B.T. members, and how it provides an unwelcoming environment. I presumed this due to how Suri used rhetorical strategies to support his claims to convince the reader. In the article, "Why Is Science
The crucible essay What comes to mind when you think of the red scare? The ussr? Communism? The threat of invasion by communist russia? The crucible might be one of them.
Cruelty is a recurrent theme in literature that often acts as a critical factor in a novel’s development. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, the occurrence of cruelty is seen to be gradually increasing as the story goes on from accusations of witchcraft that lead into chaos and death. Through Miller’s depiction of the merciless accusations and murders of innocent people, cruelty reveals a high extent of people’s animosity and vengeance that is greatly influenced by the attitude of the surrounding atmosphere. The accusations first began when the girls who were caught “dancing” in the forest were under pressure to confess what they were truly doing.
The setting of the house represents the influence of World War II. The house is standing alone amidst the destroyed neighbor houses, just like England who remained independent during the war. The war, however, did leave marks on the English society which is now on the verge of collapsing: the house is tilted and needs the support of “wooden struts” because of the “blast of the bomb” (88). The broken pipes represent the damage caused by World War II. Pipes are essential to a house’s daily function of water circulation.
Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible" is a timeless portrayal of the destructive impact of hysteria, the power of reputation, and the truth of justice. Set in the Puritan society of 17th-century Salem, Massachusetts, the play is a dramatization of the infamous witch trials that plagued the town. The play explores how a community can be consumed by irrational fear, leading to the persecution of innocent people. As one character notes, "The devil is precise; the marks of his presence are definite" (Miller 38). This quote highlights the pervasive sense of paranoia and the desire to find scapegoats that characterize the world of the play.
The act of death by inequity is explored in depth within “The Crucible”, written by Arthur Millar. It is based in 1692 within Salem, Massachusetts. The play is an allegory to the McCarthyism era. The theme of death is prevalent throughout “The Crucible” and is embodied as dying for personal pride when faced with the decision to tell a lie or die for the truth. This is represented clearly through the tragic hero, John Proctor.
The play "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller is a timeless illustration of the pernicious effects of hysteria, the power of reputation, and the truth of justice. The famous witch trials that plagued the town are recreated in the drama, which is set in the Puritan environment of 17th-century Salem, Massachusetts. The drama inspects how crazy fright may take over a community and the outcome of the persecution of harmless individuals. According to one character, "The devil is precise; the marks of his presence are definite as stone, And I must tell you all that I shall not proceed unless you are prepared to believe me if I should find no bruise of hell upon her". (Miller 38).
Fear influences people to take extreme measures and act irrationally. In The Crucible, fear plays a major role in prompting people to pursue their personal desires and use their power to harm others. On the other hand, in “Extended Forecast: Bloodshed”, fear leads to violence and upheavals as an explanation of superstition for drastic climate changes. In The Crucible, the initial fear of Abigail and her friends getting in trouble for the dancing in the woods prompts the girls to start accusing people.
Death can never be escaped no matter what. In “The Masque of the Red Death” Edgar Allan Poe shows the theme of death, a suspenseful mood, and an ominous tone. Through Poe’s use of literary devices, the reader can discover tone, theme, and mood. Throughout Poe’s life he experienced death with two of his mother’s and his young wife. Death is shown how inevitable it is with Poe’s writing and experiences combined together.
This is ironic because the readers know everyone that used to live there is dead, however the house does not know all of the humans that used to live there are dead. The author says in the very beginning of the story, “In the living room the voice-clock sang, Tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o'clock! as if it were afraid that nobody would. The morning house lay empty. The clock ticked on, repeating and repeating its sounds into the emptiness.
As I approach the house, I smell the old musty smell of the house. When I step on the front steps of the house, I hear a creak from underneath the floorboards. With every step, it seems like the creaking gets louder. I rap my hands around the dusty door handle and slowly pull open the unlocked door. The inside looks like what you’d expect.
