The reasons Gramps and Sal’s father gave Sal for going on the trip is that Sal is good with maps and can help them (Gram and Gramps) find their way, Sal can see parts of the country, and she can also get her grandparents to behave properly if she comes along with them on the trip. Although, Sal knows that these aren’t the actual reasons why Gramps and her father decided for her to go on the trip.
