The Atomic Age
After WWII when America dropped the atomic bomb on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, American officials had encouraged the development of atomic weapons. This will soon lead into the deadly “arms race” of atomic weapons. The Soviet Union will later test an atomic bomb of their own. With this taking place president Truman will give out a response that America will develop a hydrogen bomb or “super bomb.” The results of this will turn into a perilously high stakes when two of the most powerful nations were willing to play nuclear football. This affected the American Society with the people building nuclear shelters in their backyard. Many movies were made about this event which horrified many movie goers (Cold War History, 2009).

Sputnik I burned up in the earth’s atmosphere and a month later the soviets had launched their second successful rocket into space and that was named Sputnik II. Their third successful launch of the soviets was Sputnik III. Lunik III was a probe that the soviets made and use to take pictures of the dark side of the moon.
