The actions of 9/11 and the Red Scare are in fact different. With the Red Scare it was Communism and with 9/11 it was Muslims, basically all Middle Easterners. Even though the date and time of the events are different, in both events men were able to step up and take advantage of fear and hatred to turn it into suspicion and paranoia. During the time of the Red Scare attack, the U.S became afraid that communist especially from Russia and China would spread throughout the modern world. The United States is a Democratic Nation and feared that the spread of communist would be good for the United States or the world.

In the 1940 's and 1950 's, an anti-Communist movement swept the United States of America. Fueled by the anti-Communist actions of Congress, particularly a Senator from Wisconsin by the name of Joseph McCarthy, the movement escalated and many people lost their jobs as a result of various blacklists. Congressional hearings, both in front of HUAC and McCarthy Senate committee were a study in organized persecution. The actions taken during the "Red Scare" were eventually given the general name McCarthyism. McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence.
The Palmer Raids were led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. On November 17, 1919, the FBI raided the Russian Workers Union and arrested 200 people. A few weeks later, they reraided the same place and found a secret room that was hiding a bomb factory. The biggest raid happened on January 20, 1920. 30 cities were raided by government officials and thousands of immigrants were arrested.

The Red Scare and The 9/11 events caused a lot of trouble in the United States. There are a lot of things about these events that are the very similar. I wasn’t living during these events because the Red Scare happened during mostly the 1940’s and part of the 1950’s and then the attacks of September 11 happened during 2001. It took Americans off guard to see something like those events happen here in this country.
Examples of this can be seen many times throughout history, with a clear one being the trial of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti that occurred during the 1920s. America in the 1920s saw vast change and economic growth, yet still faced domestic turmoil. Due to the rise of communism in countries such as Russia, Bavaria and Hungary, a violent wave of anti-communist panic, known as the Red Scare, swept through the United States in the early 1920s. During the Red Scare, many Americans feared that communism would spread to this country and began to resent immigrants for their differences. The Palmer raids, which occurred in November and December of 1919, further demonstrated this fear with the arrests of over 4,000 people, many of who were citizens, because of suspicion that they were radicals.

Although 1692 the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare were over 200 years apart, The similarities are striking. both trials used intimidation, fear, hatred, and false accusations to ruin innocent lives. Both trials resulted in terrible outcomes, with both ending with innocent people being put to death and shunned from society.
In a news article published during the Red Scare, the author describes the Communist red flag as symbolizing “defiance of law, order, and constitutional government. It is an insult to the stars and stripes.” It also states, “There is no room in this country for any flag but our own.” (source) The article goes on to say that the federal government must do whatever it takes to eradicate any forms of communism.
As the title may suggest, the book explores the evolution of the Red Scare within the press, mainly newspaper publishings and the consequent guilds. The author’s, Edward Alwood’s purpose behind the book lies in his interest to expose the disregard and the neglect of the first amendment in the face of the anti-communist crusades. The book describes the hearings and demonstrates that while uncovering no real criminal activity they resulted in the firings of newsmen who refused to fully respond to congressional inquiries the purpose of which was often to learn the names of all those associated with the communist party, thus having an intimidating and long-lasting effect upon the press. The Red Scare started right after the civil war was over. There had been many riots to accrue during the time of the red scare. In the term the red scare had been a form of lose to many successful people. It took at huge toll on the government as they tried to stop and contain the many job losses, but as the time went by people start to riot in the streets because the of the cuts from their jobs had really affected them. People were losing their lives and the government did all they could to try and stop it.
Fear is an embedded gene that all living things possess. Fear, for many societal, has becomes the stepping stone to lay the pathway for each generation. Both attacks on Americans were unexpected and uncalled for. A collection of a few men took control of an entire country and everything that it was found on. Fear and hatred by a few of a multitude drove mass suspicion and paranoia across a nation.

Post World War II the United States was suffering from what is called “Red Scare”. The Red scare was a propaganda tactic to make the American public fear the communist countries. This propaganda was fueled further by the Korean War and the Cold War. This was fueled by a congressman by the name of Joe McCarthy. President Harry Truman also added on to this propaganda as well.
