Has anyone ever changed your life? Well this happened, Title: The Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution, By: Ji-Li Jiang. This story is about a young girl who got her life changed by the CCR. Ji-Li changed over the course of time because she went from happy to sad because when the CCR started, she wasn’t too happy about it. When CCR started she thought this wasn’t too good and that this isn’t going to be the best for her because she originally was happy and now she’s a little dull. At the beginning of the story, Ji-Li was happy. I know this because in the text it says, “I was happy because I was always loved and respected”. I was proud because I was able to excel and always expected to succeed. I trust you, too. I never doubted what I was told”(Prologue, 4-5) This tells me before CCR Ji-Li was happy because she stated I was happy. Another quote that proves Ji-Li was happy is, “With my red scarf, the emblem of the Young Pioneers, tied around my neck, and my heart bursting with joy, I achieved and grew every day until that fateful …show more content…

One event that happened that changed her was when she found out she had a da-zi-bao written about her. When she found this out she lost happiness because da-zi-baos are meant for mean comments to know what they have to change to make their life better. I know this because in the text it says “I could not believe it”. Is “My Name” a slang word? Why do you need to be a member? I’m not a teacher. Why would they write a da-zi-bao about me?” I could feel my heart race. I don’t know what to do. But I saw it with my own eyes. Du Hai and Yin Lan-lan and a couple of others were writing it” (Writing Da-Zi-Bao 42-43). This makes me feel this way because she said her heart was racing and she told herself she wasn’t a teacher so why would she have one about herself?
