There are evil monsters in different stories that do not care about other people’s feelings and ruin their life. In the graphic novel Frankenstein, by Gris Grimly, Victor is an example of a monster like in other stories. Victor is the creator of the creation with a wonderful personality that he deserted. On the other side, people think the creation is the real devil because the creation ends up dragging Victor to death. However, these actions from the creation were the result of Victor’s careless actions toward him.
Victor had two loving parents that gave him everything he ever needed or wanted to fulfill his physiological and emotional needs. Since Victor did not do this for his monster, the monster would kill all of Victor’s family and friends that he loved which would bring destruction to Victor’s life. For the rest of his days, Victor would go on a search for his monster to destroy it or die trying. Unlike Victor, the monster was never loved because of the way he looked. He was left alone, even by his creator, and lived a miserable life always escaping people that would “attacked [him], until, grievously bruised by stones and many other kinds of missile weapons” (Shelley).
Victor denied the monster it’s power by not allowing it to have what it asked for. This refusal caused the monster declare it’s dominance through threatening Victor to do as it says or he will be punished. After Victor refuses to allow his creation to take control, it goes mayhem and reacts with hatred. The creature tried to gain it’s power by deteriorating Victor’s life killing many of the friends and loved ones close to Victor. This pulls the final straw for Victor, he attempted to hunt the monster down and destroy it before it could hurt anyone else.
The Monster, through Victor, speaks of his time after he fled from Victor. He observes a family and their sadness and misery. He is curious of their source of misery because “[he] thought (foolish wretch!) that it might be in [his] power to restore happiness to these deserving people” (Shelly 102). The monster tells his original view of himself, he shows his budding ego.
This was difficult for his family to bare, and the monster was able to emphasize this once Victor brought it to life. All of his time was spent on this creation instead of his family and friends, and it created hardships due to his inflating ego. He believed that creating something from death was a good idea, and his haughty nature kept him from realizing what this could cause. Throughout the novel Victor and the Monster come across many relatable situations that they are forced to overcome. Victor Frankenstein had a very happy childhood, and he describes his parents as being “possessed by the very creature of kindness and indulgence”. Although Victor had a very happy childhood, these characteristics do not seem like the foundation of good moral character. Similarly Victor’s monster was not raised with the foundation of a good moral character. When the monster was first created he possessed more strength than he knew what to do with.
He didn 't understand why people weren 't nice to him even though he was nice to them. The creature was mad and angry at Victor and decided to take his anger out on his family and killed every single one of them. Victor says “ He showed unparalleled malignity and selfishness, in evil: he destroyed my friends; he devoted to destruction beings who possessed exquisite sensations, happiness, and wisdom; nor do I know where this thirst for vengeance may end. ”Victor was furious and wanted to destroy the creature once and for all. They both did very awful things to each other.
