The town of Yorktown was founded in 1691 and is mostly known for the battle that occurred on the lands. On September 28, the battle of yorktown takes place in Virginia. George Washington and General Nathanael Greene were in command of the American Force and the British were led by General Charles Cornwallis. One of many significant battles in the revolutionary War, however this one ended the war. The Americans and French were able to surround the British.
In the song “Battle of Yorktown,” it directly talks about the Battle of Yorktown which was the last major battle in the American Revolution. In the Battle of Yorktown, the British Army had to surrender about 8,000 soldiers. This song is mainly sung by Alexander Hamilton and Marquis de Lafayette, but it also includes some other characters such as Hercules Mulligan with a few lines from George Washington and John Laurens. The sing also includes the company, cast and crew, and ensemble, the cast singing on stage, in the background. Hamilton, Washington, and Lafayette are all very important people during the American Revolutionary War.
When choosing a portrait to analyze, some may have a very difficult time doing so due to the abundance created over the years. For my analysis, I chose the portrait called Washington, General Lafayette and Tilghman at Yorktown. This painting, done by Charles Willson Peale depicts the three generals after their victory at Yorktown during the American Revolutionary War. As a response to the victory, the Maryland House of Delegates asked Governor Thomas Sim Lee to commission Charles Willson Peale to paint the portrait- which he finished in 1781.
The battle of Cowpens lasted only one hour but it is believed to be one of the most important hour in the revolutionary war because it was an overwhelming American victory. The battle turned the table inflicting massive casualties on the British forces, about 110 dead and 200 wounded, out of 1150 British men that fought the battle. 500 of the remainder was taken prisoner; compared to only 60 wounded and 12 killed for the American Army. The battle subsequently caused the British to lose control of South Carolina and pushing them further North where they would be defeated at the Battle of Yorktown in Virginia 8 months later.
The British’s numbers dropped fast. Although the British took control of the hill and technically won the battle they suffered too many loses to benefit from it. There was 226 redcoats killed and 828 wounded. There was 115 Americans killed and 305 wounded. There was also 30 Americans captured.

The Battle of Valley Forge was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. Although no actual military battle was waged here, George Washington’s Continental Army faced some physical and mental battles of their own in this Pennsylvania town. It was here at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania where the Continental Army Soldiers of the Revolutionary War chose to go after being defeated in the Battle of Germantown in October 1777. During this winter, Washington’s troops came to this encampment to recuperate and train for future battles with the British.
The Revolutionary War ,also known as the American War of Independence or The American Revolution began in 1775.You may ask what was the American Revolution,or how did it help the United states. This war helped get our independence. This war began because the colonies wanted to be free from England. This war ended in 1783. Their conflicts began a decade before The Revolutionary War.
However, in all of the battles fought there had never been large scale surrenders (for the British anyways). Once Saratoga was over, and the violence was through, there was a mass of captured British men counting up to around 5,000 men from the British side (2). This was due to mainly Burgoyne’s failure in the attack, freeman’s farm, and Arnold’s mad charge. This was not only a huge morale booster for the Americans, but it also caused a huge loss for the British, for it ended their victories in New York for the time being, and also stopped their forward growing momentum towards victory giving America its chance to push back. Going even further into British loss, five thousand highly trained regulars were captured hurting the British advance until reinforcements arrive (3).
The Boston Massacres was a terrible event that has faults on both the colonists and the British soldier's shoulders. However, no part of this event would have happened if the colonists had not formed a riot right in front of the British soldiers. The colonists have the right to complain about their feeling on how they are treated by the king. They do not have the right harass and or threaten these British soldiers because these soldiers had done the colonists no fault. By complaining, cursing and or threatening these British soldiers is not going to change the way in which the colonies are treated.
Artillery can trace its beginnings all the way back to 400 B.C. with the invention of the catapult. Using a mechanical action to hurl large objects, usually stone, to breach fortified positions and cause mass casualties with an object from a long distance. Artillery has been a vital asset in every major battle around the world since then. The Siege of Yorktown was a key event in artillery history. The battle demonstrated that a well-planned strategy involving artillery could defeat a superior, fortified enemy very efficiently.
Where the British lost men to the ratio 2:1 to the colonists. The second battle, the Battle of Bemis Heights, on October 7th, 1777 is named Victory NY now is where the Saratoga Monument is placed and memorializes that day. The colonists winning the Battles of Saratoga caused British general Burgoyne to return to England and never give another command. This is why the Battles of Saratoga are considered the major turning point in the American Revolution. Others might say the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the first battle, where the British attempted to seize Patriot arms is the turning point.
During the year 1781 in Charlottesville, Virginia, three men discuss the following events of the last battle of the Revolutionary War four days before the event. 5:38 pm - Charlottesville, Virginia “Alexander sir, would it trouble you to come in here for a moment?” Washington asked, waiting for an answer. Hamilton replied “Not at all, what can I help you fine gentlemen with?”.
This day is the best day of my life. George Washington defeated the English army. Washington had completely encircled Cornwallis and Yorktown, with the combined forces of Continental and French troops. For three weeks of nonstop bombardment, day and night, from cannon and artillery. This is the last battle continual army will fight against english.
