Robert E Lee, is a general known for commanding the Confederate Army in Northern Virginia, General Lee once said, “I cannot trust a man to control others who cannot control himself.” General Lee was given the task to determine which of his men would take on the role of a leader. In order to assign leaders, Lee sought certain traits from individuals such as self-discipline, concern and communication. As a leader himself General Lee derailed any difficulty that were to stray his followers off the path of their goal. As the king of ithaca Odysseus’ had an obligation to fight for his city-state and fought a war on troy, their Odysseus spent ten years in war, until victory. Odysseus wanted to go back to ithaca to see his wife Penelope and his son Telamachus On his way back odysseus faces many situations in which endanger himself and his followers. Odysseus runs into troubling journeys in which involve gods goddesses and monsters. Because of these drawbacks odysseus arrives to ithaca ten years late, and faces even more problems at his own home. Odysseus the famous epic hero and leader of ithaca from greek mythology but, he deserves a D- on his leadership, although odysseus’ primary concern is for his men, he does not have self-discipline and falls to the temptation of greed, and fails to communicate clearly with his men. The more faith and trust a leader instills within his own follower, the more effectively and clear his messages get across to his followers. In the cyclops odysseus finds a cave filled with food, in most greek cultures many people welcome strangers with hospitality in return for stories of their adventures, odysseus decides to stay hoping for the hospitality and food. Odysseus then realizes it is the cyclops who own the cave, cyclops are barbaric creatures that are usually portrayed as monsters having one eye and a neanderthal shaped body. Odysseus demonstrates his primary concern for his men in the cyclops, “ now by the gods, I drove my big hand spike deep in the embers charring it again, and cheered my men with battle talk to keep their courage up” odysseus displays his leadership, for he instills courage in his men to stab the eye of the cyclops. odysseus puts his crew before himself and leads the attack . Odysseus stands in front closest to the cyclops, so if anyone were killed first Odysseus would be the first candidate. Although some may argue that odysseus’ greed killed eight of his men, for if he had ignored the temptations of the food and hospitality his men would not have died.
