Different is the new trend Freak! Imagine you are being told this, what that person feels and how much their self esteem is being put down. Well this is something that everyone can relate to. Freak is not the only word that can hurt a person. For many years someone that had different physical traits were not accepted because it did not fit what was considered beautiful or normal. If you look at a magazine the models don’t even look like that because of retouching and altering of the photo. Society is starting to accept physical traits that are different. This will help to prevent such mean names from being told to people that do have different physical traits. The extent to which society has accepted physical traits that are different is by the acceptance of different races, people with disabilities and plus size models in the fashion world. The accepting of physical traits has not just been in the U.S but all over the world. The most important physical trait that has been accepted is the acceptance of different races. The other accepted physical trait is of disabilities. Back then people with disabilities were sent away and were not really given rights that people all over the world had at that time. Now “individuals are changing what they have power over…” (Leo, pg.162) These certain individuals with disabilities are changing the society today because now they are acting and going on famous TV shows, they lead independent lives such as having a job, having their own place and some even having their own cars.
