The strategies of the World War II have been the key to complete missions. In the eyes of many people, the airplanes were one of the essential equipment of the battles in World War II. Also, it was a secret service under the water line of the ocean working like a shadow with targets like Japan supply and combat ships, which were submarines. Submarines were used first to block ships suspecting to have prohibited cargo throughout the British line by the Germans. In addition, they announce to the people aboard to abandon the ship and the submarine sunk the cargo ships.
The Wright brothers infamous flight at Kittyhawk happened just over a decade prior to the assassination of the Archduke. And up untill the use in the 1911 war between Tyrkey and Libya airplanes were still rather undeveloped, and being used purely for recreation. War lead to an explosion in production and aircraft technology. Two of the major mechanical changes to the aircraft were the propellers being changed from pusher to tractor; meaning that the air was no longer being pushed behind the aircraft, but pulled towards it.
Technological Advancements During WW1 World War One was no doubt one of the most brutal wars in human history. It was also one of the most innovative. Because so many wealthy nations were so hell-bent on winning, they were willing to pour a seemingly limitless stream of funds into the war, leading to a large amount of military research. This, in turn, lead to a multitude of technological advancements, solely for the war. This didn’t particularly affect the war as sometimes the weather wasn’t clear enough to see, due to clouds blocking the view, and most reconnaissance reports weren’t paid enough attention by military officials when planning and preparing for battles. Forward-firing machine guns began to be installed onto planes by 1915, but the invention of an interrupter mechanism that allowed machine guns to shoot through moving propellor blades was the real advancement that happened. Planes were starting to be used to bomb key areas once bomb racks were attached, targeting sites related to military production, and even attacking civilians to damage public morale and reduce support for the war. This explains how planes evolved from only being used for military spotting and gathering information, to being able to attack and bomb the enemy using machine guns and artillery stored on the plane, weapons that were previously only used by the army troops. Planes didn’t affect the war much until weapons started being mounted onto planes, introducing aerial bombing, which became an important part of the war and changed how it was fought.
During World War Two, a new type of aircraft was created in order to help destroy the third Reich. This new aircraft was the B-17. The B-17 became America’s instrument to strategic warfare. The B-17 could lay waste to the enemy’s war industry. On the B-17 there were 13 machine guns.
During World War 1, it was more of a direct fight. World War 1 consisted of trenches, and many people on the ground fighting. In World War 1, airplanes were first used but not really as a source of damaging the enemy. They were used to scout the enemies. Now in the War on Terror airplanes are used for many things.
A famous example of this, although not during the war but a reason of why the war started, was the SS Lusitania it was a passenger ship that was leaving New York and was going to the United Kingdom, the germans, “adopted a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare in the waters around the United Kingdom. Even neutral ships, it declared, would be fair game.” (Jesse Greenspan) the germans sunk the ship and made the U.S. very angry. Although the ability of resupplying on boats was very hard to do, they used WWII planes to do the needed resupplying in the war. In addition to the planes dropping supplies, they were also had the ability to drop paratroopers, which were a unit of the military that would drop out of parachute and land on the battlefield, this made it easier to drop troops into a place that is difficult to get to without being spotted, it also made it easier to surprise the enemy because they could get to the battlefield without the enemy knowing unless they have radar to see the planes
While both the Allies and Axis sides possessed their military powers through the army, battleships, and tanks, air warfare was also crucial for either side to win in and played an important role in the outcome of WWII. They were used in many tactical missions, as well as to transport troops, equipment, and supplies to the battlefield in mere minutes. Many major events happened due to air bombings and fights in the sky, including the bombings of Pearl Harbor, which eventually dragged the U.S. into the war, all the way to the Atom bomb droppings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Planes have been proved effective regarding both sides, and WWII would have turned out a whole lot differently without them.
However, throughout World War One, lots of new technology was made and lots of old ones were improved to make fighting more efficient for countries. The biggest war technology was, and still is today, the airplane. At first, they were used for spying and gathering information about what your enemy’s next move was. Soon after, they started being used for bombing, then became fully equipped with machine guns. Fighting in the air was one of the most dangerous jobs of the war.
Since WWII was one of the first major wars using planes it became very expensive, but was also a very effective battle tactic. On the date of July 10, 1940, Germany attempted to destroy Great Britain's Royal Air Force (“World War II”). Later, Great Britain’s allies countered the attacks with 14,000 airplane attacks in one day (“World War II”). Even though Germany had a bigger air force Great Britain still won (“World War II”). According to “WWII Aircraft Facts,” “the first major attack was when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor (“World War II”).”
Back in World War One, airplanes were a thought of the future, but they became extremely prominent in World War Two, and essentially ruled the offensive and defensive strategies of the European and Pacific Theater. The Germans were able to defeat many countries through their use of advanced military equipment, as they notoriously demolished France, Belgium, Poland, Norway, and Denmark. Hitler was able to utilize many successful tactics such as the Blitzkrieg and the Sitzkrieg. Those deadly tactics, when combined with the use of airplanes and tanks, was virtually unstoppable. Germany kept advancing its technology until it matched Britain, who was able to consistently match and fend off Germany’s shiny new weapons.
In the revolutionary war and civil we just lined up and fired at each other, and used old muskets and bayonets. WWI we were fighting from trenches, using horses and gassing each other. WWI we started to use planes and building tanks. Which then was a bigger thing by WWII with the M22 Locust, and lots of others. Also considering that that we were brought into the war with Pearl Harbor which was mostly airplanes that carried out the attack (except for the few submarines).
During the beginning of the first world war, aircrafts were used primarily for military observation of enemy states and did not play a large role until near the end of the war where they were used to bomb enemy territory on the western front. The first fighter planes produced in World War I, was rarely used due to their overall inaccuracy and inefficiency whereas the fighter planes/jets produced during world war II, had more speed, enhanced armoury and were more accurate and precise. As such, the long-range aircraft of the second world war removed the Mid-Atlantic Gap. Furthermore, technological progression had a large influence on the production rate of airpower.
WW1 is known as the first modern war because it saw the incorporation of mechanical weapons. The Central Powers and Allies both used a variety of weapons such as machine guns, chemical weapons , clothing, biplanes, artillery, tanks, grenades, and rifles. These weapons were state of the art for the early 20th century. These weapons caused casualties to skyrocket as the Allies and the Central Powers were in a stalemate.
Slowly after the 1900’s different types of planes were being made and they had certain purposes. Big sturdy planes carried a lot of cargo, long thin planes carried passengers. Now almost everybody has rode a plane, it is really an amazing mode of transportation! The Wright Brothers changed the way aerodynamics works by, teaching thousands of pilots how to maneuver a plane.
