As the fires took Montag’s home and turned it to ashes Beatty could only stand and watch. Even though the heat was so intense he could not tell whether he was hot from the fire or from how he felt on the inside. He was burning with the red-hot anger of betrayal and the poison of revenge was in his blood. His disbelief in that Montag could betray him was the fuel for these emotions. Then, in one quick breeze of wind, the acrid smell of smoke and the burning pages flung him into the memories of his past. While he was growing up, the young Captain Beatty loved to read. He would read as much as he could ever find. This obsession began to take over his life when he saw words and sentences in the parlor. Unknown to much of the world, it is possible to read legally. It was a large, blue book with large letters spelling, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” The beautiful silver letters reflected the sunlight for such a short span of time that Beatty was sure it had all been imagined. He had been as quiet and sneaky as possible, he slowly walked towards the back corner of the room. He slowly and carefully leaned over and looked behind the computer desk.
