In Greek mythology, it is said that a white-winged horse sprang from the neck of Medusa when she was beheaded by Perseus, along with a warrior named Chrysaor. When Pegasus was born he fled to Mount Helicon and befriended the muses, and which is where he created the spring "Hippocrene" by striking the ground with his hoof. A warrior, named Bellerophon then one day came to Mount Helicon to tame the beast using a golden bridle given to him by Athena, the goddess of wisdom, courage and war. Bellerophon then rode Pegasus into battle, killing the Chimaera which was devastating King Iobates ' land.
