During the 1920s Fashion took on a modern look. As women’s roles changed in society, so did the clothing. Women cut their hair short into bobbs. The 1920s is when the “flapper” was introduced. The flapper was a young woman who was dramatic, stylish, and unconventional. The tubular dresses evolved into shorter skirts with pleats, gathers, or slits. This allowed women to move more and have more motion which came in handy with the new jazz music. Women had busier and more productive lives then before so they like to wear more comfortable clothes during the day so they can be able to move around more to get their jobs done. During evenings, when women nights out they wore fancier dresses. To make their evening dresses look shimmerier and bright they would add glass beads and plastic sequins. Their skirts were usually shorter in the front and longer in the back. Within just a year women’s hemlines now had reached their calves. Pleats and slits now had to be below the knee. So from the 1920s to the 1930s fashion for women changed quite a bit.
During the 1940s women’s clothing was all about showing off your hourglass figure. Even if you didn’t have an hourglass figure, the dresses were styled to make it look like you did have that type of figure.
