This time period was a time that America bathed in prosperity which allowed U.S. citizens to enjoy more leisure time.
Nearly 30 years later, the characteristics of the 1920s are present in repeating economic, political, and even social circumstances in the 1950s. Many portions of American history were transformed throughout these two memorable time periods, as the saying "history repeats itself" states. Looking back on the flourishing 1920s, many were relieved that the war was over and that life could return to normal. What happened in the 1950s was no different. The postwar prosperity and civil rights movement are the most widely recognized periods of these times.
The Progressive Era from the 1890s to 1920s was a period that experienced extensive social activism and political reforms across the United States. This movement was spurred by the heightened level of corruption and injustice of large corporations and in government at that time. The movement primarily comprised of “liberals who wanted to reform and regulate their capitalist society and not destroy it. " There were several pushes to make the political process more open and transparent. One of which was the adaptation of the direct primary elections and to grant the Presidents more powers to regulate new laws.

College then was four year course and classes where worth 3 credits. The courses were not vocational unlike now. In 1920 only 2 percent were able to attend college if they choose to.
The 1920s were the first years of the new, modern America, with a growing consumer society and new ideas and rules. America saw many changes throughout this decade, including but not limited to social, economic and political changes. Throughout this time, new values were made with the growth of new forms of entertainment and education. After the Progressive Era, the ideas of political figures changed with a new focus on conservative politics and less labor issues. With the new ability for people to buy other products than basic needs, their money went to new inventions, causing new industries to grow.
This was important because it gave education opportunities to people of all social classes, such as farmers and people of the working class, and not just the wealthy.
In stark contrast to the prosperity of the 1920s, the Great Depression affected every industrialised country from 1929 to 1929. Under Republican administration, laissez faire capitalism incited the emergence of fundamental flaws within the manufacturing sector, as well as high tariffs. These policies ultimately precipitated extreme disparities in wealth and civil liberties. Although such policies were major causative factors in this era, they cannot be identified as the sole cause of the Depression.

America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.
America experienced a sudden disregard of Victorian values following World War I, causing the generation of the 1920s to dramatically contrast the previous. This severe degree of change produced three major manifestations of the contradictions in the twenties. There were massive conflicts to the Jazz Age, technological advancements, and Black Migration. The contradictions of the 1920s reflect America’s conflicted state between advancement and convention, as the cultural and technological developments of the era coincide with the inability of individuals to stray from traditional norms and racist attitudes.
Education Reform There is no doubt that education has revolutionized the world. However, at one point in time, education was seen to be only for the rich and not a necessity to all like it is today. Receiving an education in the early 1800’s was not important in the grand scheme of things because the poor children were expected to work on farms or in factories to provide for their families. African Americans were still finding their place in society after the institution of slavery had been removed, and education, an idea that had not been prominent in the minds of many, was on the rise. Old World countries faced a huge growth in population, leaving almost no room for many citizens to live.
