Food/ Drink in the Renaissance Should people be judged by the way they live? During the Renaissance, the food and beverages which people consumed was based on what social class they were in. People had it hard during the Renaissance; poor harvests would devastate entire towns and lead to people not being able to eat in some areas. During a poor harvest, noble people would not be nearly as affected as the lower classes. The upper class would still be able to eat plenty of meat. Most lower class people didn't care what they ate as long as they had something. When a town would have a poor harvest, it would lead to starvation in some areas. When the wool trade started, it gave the face of agriculture and the land enclosures a whole new look because the number of people in poverty increased rapidly. Social class has a significant role in the Renaissance and almost every aspect of life. The food in England was every hard to come across when you was poor or had low income because it depended on the social classes. The food that the Upper-Class eat was rich and health than the lower class food. The Upper Class also enjoyed spices imported from different countries. Because the upper class has many more remedies to help, they cure their sickness. They had more power and ability to fix thing as well the lower class had it rough they did not have much to eat so they had to pass their food out, so when someone would get sick they would almost never recover. They didn’t have a place to keep warm when it got cold or raining. The lower class did not get to take many baths either because the water was dirty around this time. The way they had thing step during this period, it made the lower class hate the upper class because the upper class acted all high and mighty like they could not share, and that brought hatred between the two
