This story (of mice and men) is about 2 friends that have been together for a long time. One friend is named George, George is like a big brother to the little brother named Lennie, Lennie is a little slow so he really doesn’t know what he really does. In this essay I'm going to be writing about whether or not students should be able to read Of Mice and Men based on the subject matter which is justified if George had a good reason in killing Lennie. I'm going to give my opinions on this book, so one reason you could have justified into George killing Lennie would be religion. If Lennie wanted to die then it would have been a reason and that reason is Euthanasia
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world (Harriet Tubman). Throughout the novella, Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck displays that having a dream may impact one to make better choices. Steinbeck shows this through the motif of dreams, characterization, and imagery.
The deep green pool of the Salinas River sat still as the sun was setting. The molted sycamore trees provided a nice, cool, shade to the riverbank where all the animals could relax. All was calm until suddenly, a tall man came clomping down to the river, got a quick drink, and sat there waiting. A while later, another man, this one short, came and they talked. They talked about their future plans, hopes, and wishes as the sun was disappearing over the horizon.
Justified Murder in Of Mice and Men George was doing the right thing by killing Lennie. Lennie was going to be punished for what he had done and George was giving him the fastest, least painful way out. What John Steinbeck was trying to prove in Of Mice and Men is that true friendship is about looking out for each other and putting each others needs before your own and doing what's best for them even if it is hard on you. Lennie’s shooting was only justified because George did it for the right reasons. Lennie keeps getting into trouble, no matter where they go, and George know’s they cannot run forever and sooner or later Lennie will be caught and have to deal with the consequences of his actions.
Did you know that 30 states have laws in their constitutions that prohibit the disabled from voting? Unfortunately, many people feel the need to take away basic human rights, because they feel that the disabled ones cannot handle it. Many disabled ones are born with disabilities and they cannot help how they look, talk, or act. Should this be the reason that they should be reduced to below the way that children are treated? In the book Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck demonstrates the way that disabled ones are treated in the real world through his character Lennie.
Is Killing Ever Justified Would you kill your best friend. Of course not it’s the person in your life that makes you happy. What if your best friend caused you trouble and lost you every job that you ever had. That might change your mind a little bit.
The killings in the novella “Of Mice and Men,” show that murder and death will come back to haunt people. The first killing is when Carlson kills Candy’s dog. He says that the dog is just suffering and it is also really smelly. This is why Carlson made the decision to shoot Candy’s dog, even though Candy doesn’t want Carlson to shoot his dog. The second killing was when Lennie killed his puppy.
“There never is a good time for tough decisions,” says Jairam Ramesh. Life always tries to find a way to present complex decisions, with no straightforward way around it. It is one hard choice or another. An example of tough decisions is in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. In this story, George Milton makes the decision to kill his best friend, Lennie Small.
Although many believe that mercy killing is wrong or unjust, Mercy killing, also knows as euthansiss is and a moral way to show empathy and compassion to a loved one in need. For example, In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. George, one of the main characters in the novel, killed his best friend Lennie because he thought that killing him was the best for him. Lennie is “a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, and pale eyes” who acts and thinks like a child who doesn't know right from wrong.
Imagine, a small, nearly silent hospital room filled with quiet apprehension about what is about to happen; the silence masked only by soothing voices trying to bring the room to a state of peace. A man lies in bed, only kept alive by the life support that his been sustaining him for days. Then in a moment, the life support is gone and so is the man, released in a harsh act prompted by mercy, compassion, and good intentions. In John Steinbeck’s book, Of Mice and Men, a another situation is prompted by compassion, but the result is a cruel act. Lennie attempts to show caring and tenderness to Curley’s wife, but it leads to her death in an example of situational irony.
In John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie go through ups and downs within their relationship that changes what they thought their future would hold. From day to day Lennie and George encounter unfortunate plans that could’ve been stopped but were not due to Lennie’s incompetence. In his novel, Steinbeck uses motifs of death and characters’ hands as well as foreshadowing to convey that the best of plans can be overruled by the uncertainty of outside forces, ultimately suggesting that life is unpredictable. Steinbeck develops a motif of death through the many different animals that pass away within the novel as a metaphor for the the demise of Lennie and George’s plans. Lennie is never made out to be a killer, that is until
Killing another seems very unjustifiable, which might be the case but when someone takes another 's life and sent to prison, death row or capital punishment is needed to put that person were they belong. People like that deserve to die because of their mistake of killing another and it deters other people to not kill others, showing them what would happen. In the case of Capital Punishment, Hunting for Sport, or George and Lennie, killing is a justifiable act. In the case of capital punishment killing is justified and needs to be done. For example, “Some crimes are so inherently evil they demand strict penalties up to and including death”(McClatchy).
Do you think people are simply cruel or do they have a reasoning to be cruel? In the book of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, many characters show a cruel side of them that was a bit misunderstanding but had their own personal reasons why they acted cruel. The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, with a very intense storyline is about two best friends named Lennie Small and George Milton who are always on the road looking for work on farms, since they’re planning to own their own farm someday. When luck hits them and find work at a ranch they meet many people at the ranch but everyone doesn’t get along. Sadly in the end when George finds out they wanted to kill Lennie, George ended up killing Lennie himself.
In Of Mice and Men violence is extremely prevalent and also a major theme. Each character is so accustomed to their misfortune and failure, which results in them becoming agitated and more frustrated with each other. Violence and bullying are used as outlets for their stress and misery. An example of a character that suffers from this violence is Crooks. He decides to torment Lennie by touching on the idea about George’s safety being in danger, however crooks intentions came from the discrimination and isolation he felt unlike some of the other workers, Crooks wasn't just passing by.
There are many forms of euthanasia. Whether it’s active or passive, voluntary or non-voluntary, most of these forms are illegal in almost every country in the world. Passive euthanasia is refusing treatment and allowing illness or injuries kill you, however active euthanasia is what I’m going to talk about today. It generally consists of injecting a lethal chemical composite dose into the bloodstream that is meant to end your life in the most painless way possible. We live in a world that has opposing viewpoints on this subject; there are those who view it as homicide, and others who view it as the most sincere form of human compassion.
