Chin Peng claimed that the Communist Party of Malaya or MCP was instrumental in securing Malaya’s independence in 1957, which means that the MCP played a huge role in helping Malaya achieve independence and without it, Malaya would not have become independent. However, this may not be true because even before the MCP, the British had already promised Malaya eventual independence, meaning that even without the MCP, Malaya would still eventually have received independence from the British. In addition, Malaya 's independence may be due to the fact that many nationalist leaders were able to gain support of the locals and external parties which made the British more inclined to give them independence. Nationalist leaders who were able to lead their nation well were able to garner support easily and well. They, along with their nation, were able to convince that the British they would be able to lead Malaya well. The stronger the leader was and the more capable he or she was, the more trust the British will have in them to lead Malaya well and the British will be more inclined to hand independence over to Malaya. The presence of strong nationalist leaders who can lead their nation well and who proved themselves worthy of independence caused the British to want to hand over independence to Malaya. An example of such a nationalist leader is Tunkul Abdul Rahman. It could be said that Tunkul Abdul Rahman himself was instrumental in securing Malaya’s independence. He is even regarded as the Bapa Malaysia or Father of Malaysia. He helped to prove to the British that he was able to lead the country and help the country to succeed. In addition, there are still other strong nationalist leaders who contributed to the securing of Malaya’s independence. Another example of a nationalist leader is Burhanuddin bin Muhammad Nūr al-Hilmī. He was the leader the MNP and pushed for independence through revolution. Furthermore, it is also important to note that Britsh already promised to give independence three years before the Malayan emergency even ended. This shows that the British giving independence had less to do with the communist party and more to do with the the nationalist leaders and that Britain had already wanted to give Malaya independence. Although the communist party had a role to play in Malaya’s independence, without it, the Malaya could have gained independence even faster. In the third paragraph we mentioned that Templer had to get Malaya prepared for independence, therefore, without the Malayan Emergency, Templer could have gotten Malaya ready even faster and thus gaining independence even faster. The Nationalist leaders and generals which showed the British that the locals were able to lead the country themselves which thus led to the transfer of power from the British to the locals to be hastened. Furthermore, as shown in paragraph two, the British would have nothing to lose by giving independence to Malaya.
