The Russian Revolution: A Study in Mass Mobilization By John L. H. Keep

Throughout the twentieth century, various books and documents published at a tremendous rate about the Russian Revolution. However, The Russian Revolution: A Study in Mass Mobilization of John H. L. Keep is worthy of mentioning. The distinctive feature is that this book is the first inclusionary study written in English about the rural places of tsarist Russia in which revolutionary events started. This book sets sight on people who took part during the rebellion and early stages of revolution. Therewithal, it argues the unfolding and progress of the sources of the revolutionary organizations during the year 1917 in order to picture the ambitions of common people and proletariat. Yet, the author does not portray the events in a classical way as other Soviet researchers does. His support documents are collected from various history articles and monographs instead of primary sources. “The Russian Revolution: A Study in Mass Mobilization” includes five chapter. First chapter discusses the social and economic situations of common people and working class before the Great War as well as through the war years. Second chapter analyzes the upheavals in the city while chapter three discusses the rebellions in rural regions. The surveyed revolts occurred from March 1917 to September 1917. Fourth and last chapter of the book tells us what happened to the organizations after the Bolshevik came to power. The chapters narrate the story of city and rural areas respectively starting from March 1918 to the end of the year. The chapters are very elucidative and
